Semi Skilled Site Operative with Fire Watching Certificate
Position Summary
The Semi Skilled Site Operative with Fire Watching Certificate supports safe and efficient site operations by preparing work areas, assisting skilled tradespersons, monitoring fire hazards, handling materials, and reinstating work zones. This role focuses on fire safety monitoring while also performing a variety of practical site tasks as directed, following clear instructions and adhering to health and safety standards at all times.
Main Responsibilities
- Monitor designated work areas for fire risks during and after hot work activities
- Respond promptly and appropriately if fire hazards or incidents are detected
- Prepare and clear work areas before and after tasks
- Assist skilled trades such as pipefitters, welders, riggers, and storekeepers with basic and manual tasks
- Gather, carry, and distribute tools, materials, and equipment as instructed
- Transport and arrange materials safely using manual handling techniques
- Conduct basic maintenance and checks on fire safety equipment, reporting any faults
- Restore and tidy work sites upon completion of tasks
- Follow risk assessments and permit-to-work procedures at all times
- Complete documentation related to fire watch, stores, tools, and material movements as directed
- Report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions to the supervisor promptly
- Support tasks such as general labouring, stores duties, and material handling on site
- Use and maintain site tools and equipment safely and correctly
- Promote and maintain a safe and tidy work environment
- Cooperate and communicate effectively with team members and other site personnel
- Complete additional tasks as instructed by the supervisor or chargehand
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Valid fire watching certificate with recent experience in fire watch duties
- Valid site safety passport or relevant site safety training
- Experience in site operations, industrial, construction, or energy sector settings is preferred
- Understanding of fire safety, emergency responses, and general safe working practices
- Ability to follow instructions and comply with strict site rules
- Physical capability to perform manual handling and general site labour
- Willingness to take part in ongoing and refresher safety training
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to keep accurate, simple records when required
- Flexible and willing to assist with various site activities as needed
