Full job description

Midland Eyehas the opportunity for an enthusiastic Ophthalmic Technician to join the team.

The position will be to provide a professional service to Midland Eye, working with clinicians, doctors and other professionals, both at the clinic and the satellite site to ensure that all patients entering the Midland Eye pathway receive a high standard of care. You will be required to work in related clinical role to facilitate the provision of an efficient and effective service to all users of Midland Eye.

The successful candidate will have the following:

At least 1 years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Technician – preferred but not essential as full training will be given to the ideal candidate
IT Literate
Excellent organisational skills
Excellent communication skills both verbal & written
Evidence of on-going professional development
Enthusiastic & self-motivated
Proactive approach to standard setting/problem solving
Flexible approach to workload and shift rotation (including late clinics and weekends)

The key accountabilities include:

Deliver a high standard of patient-centred care, acting as a professional ambassador for Midland Eye
Support consultant-led clinics, ensuring safe, efficient patient flow and a positive patient experience
Perform a wide range of ophthalmic diagnostic tests following training and competency, including OCT (optic disc and anterior segment), visual fields, tonometry, pachymetry, biometry (including immersion) and visual acuity testing
Prepare, position and reassure patients during investigations, using empathetic and motivational techniques
Administer ophthalmic drops (e.g. mydriatics, anaesthetics, lubricants) in accordance with protocols, recognising indications and contraindications
Accurately record clinical findings and maintain complete, timely and confidential patient records
Safely operate, clean, test and maintain complex ophthalmic diagnostic equipment in line with infection control and manufacturer guidance
Assist with emergency procedures where required, including basic life support and resuscitation
Maintain patient safety, dignity and confidentiality at all times, adhering to health & safety and infection control standards
Support anaesthetic and recovery areas as required, including admitting patients and instilling anaesthetic drops
Liaise closely with consultants, technicians and administrative teams to coordinate patient pathways
Monitor clinical stock levels and support ordering of consumables and pharmaceuticals
Identify and report incidents, risks or hazards, contributing to continuous service improvement
