We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Criminal Fees Clerk to join our busy criminal practice on a part-time basis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, submission, and management of criminal legal aid and prosecution billing, ensuring claims are processed accurately and within required timescales.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and submitting criminal legal aid claims through the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) portal.
- Processing and managing CPS billing and prosecution fee claims.
- Reviewing files to ensure accurate fee claims in accordance with current regulations and guidance.
- Liaising with fee earners, caseworkers, the Legal Aid Agency, and the Crown Prosecution Service regarding billing queries.
- Monitoring outstanding claims and following up on unpaid invoices.
- Maintaining accurate billing records and management information.
- Ensuring compliance with Legal Aid Agency and CPS billing requirements.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Criminal Fees Clerk or in a similar legal aid billing role.
- Sound knowledge of Criminal Legal Aid billing procedures and LAA online systems.
- Experience dealing with CPS fee claims and prosecution billing.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
- Good communication skills and a professional manner.
