Full job description

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Finance Manager to lead our finance function and oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the business.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will play a key role in ensuring strong financial control, accurate reporting, compliance, and commercial insight. This is a varied and rewarding position where you'll lead a small finance team of three while remaining actively involved in the operational aspects of finance.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced SME environment, is happy to roll up their sleeves, and wants to make a genuine impact on the success of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the finance team, overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Take a proactive, hands-on approach across all areas of the finance function, including debt collection, creditor and debtor liaison, cash management, and bank reconciliations.
Produce accurate monthly management accounts and provide meaningful financial analysis.
Maintain a rolling daily cash flow forecast, working closely with the wider management team to monitor liquidity and income expectations.
Complete all month-end processes, including journal preparation and posting, balance sheet reconciliations, and reporting.
Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns (both suffered and deducted).
Manage payroll in collaboration with HR and departmental managers.
Liaise with external auditors, banks, HMRC, and other professional advisers.
Prepare statutory accounts and support the year-end audit process.
Complete monthly stock valuations and work-in-progress (WIP) calculations.
Support the Managing Director with financial planning, budgeting, and business decision-making.
Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.

About You

You'll be an experienced finance professional who enjoys taking ownership and working closely with operational teams.

Essential Skills & Experience

Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
Previous experience in a Finance Manager, Financial Controller, or similar senior finance role.
Strong background within a manufacturing or SME environment.
Experience using Sage 50 Accounts.
Excellent understanding of CIS accounting and subcontractor processes.
Experience preparing statutory accounts and working with external auditors.
Strong knowledge of month-end processes, reconciliations, and management reporting.
Payroll experience.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, nested formulas, and error handling.
Confident communicator, able to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Able to work independently while managing competing priorities.
