Work setting: Edinburgh-based (in-person or hybrid)
Job type: Freelance / Contract (with potential for a long-term role)
Job description
We're a small Edinburgh team building an interactive tourism app, a fun, story-driven way for travellers to explore cities, with a gamification element. We're looking for a talented mobile app developer to help bring the first version to life.
This is a freelance contract to begin with, ideal for someone who enjoys early-stage projects and wants genuine ownership of what they build. For the right person, there's a clear path to a paid, long-term role as the project grows.
You'd be working closely with the founder to build a cross-platform mobile app for iOS and Android, including features like maps, audio playback, in-app purchases, and user accounts.
Whether you're an experienced developer or a recent graduate with a strong portfolio, we'd love to hear from you.
What we're looking for
- Experience building and shipping mobile apps (iOS and Android)
- Comfortable with cross-platform development (e.g. Flutter or React Native)
- Familiar with integrating maps, audio, and in-app purchases
- Able to work independently and communicate clearly
- Based in or near Edinburgh
- Right to work in the UK (required)
- A genuine interest in early-stage projects and building something from the ground up
Nice to have
- An interest in travel, culture, or storytelling
- Experience with app store submission and launch
Fresh graduates welcome
We assess mainly on the strength of your portfolio, so if you've built impressive apps, we'd love to see them, regardless of your experience level.
