Full job description

Role Overview

The Commercial Manager is responsible for the overall management of live projects, ensuring seamless coordination of site activities, effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, and efficient financial oversight. The role requires proactive management of project expenditures, revenue streams, and resource allocation to drive profitability and maintain operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Review, compile, and approve weekly timesheets for payroll processing.
Authorise and process subcontractor invoices in line with contractual agreements.
Prepare and submit monthly payment applications to clients.
Conduct detailed job cost and profit analyses on a monthly basis.
Develop and maintain project income and expenditure budgets, incorporating periodic reviews and revisions.
Plan and allocate labour resources in accordance with project demands.
Manage weekly accommodation requirements based on workforce allocation.
Conduct site visits to monitor project progress, ensure quality compliance, and liaise with clients.
Oversee material resource planning, liaising with Procurement for order fulfilment, including materials take-offs where required.
Establish initial project production schedules and fibre demand forecasts.
Attend weekly project review meetings to assess site requirements and delivery schedules.
Provide feedback on design, quality, and non-conformance issues to relevant departments.
Manage staff leave, sickness, and absence reporting for site employees.
Address HR-related matters, including personnel performance and disciplinary processes.
Lead tendering activities for new project opportunities.
Conduct project close-out inspections and ensure completion of outstanding works.
Create and manage project records within the Sage database.
Continuously review client documentation, including site-specific drawings and work programmes.
Compile site-specific Health & Safety documentation in compliance with regulations.
Conduct employee performance appraisals and implement necessary action plans.
Manage plant hire requirements, including demand forecasting and off-hire scheduling.
Maintain effective communication with site operatives, supervisors, senior management, and directors via meetings, emails, and formal reports.
Perform any other ad-hoc duties as required.

Key Requirements Essential

Proven experience in a commercial management role within the construction or joinery sector.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the business.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
Sound knowledge of construction processes, contract management, and quality standards.
Competence in interpreting and analysing construction drawings.

Desirable:

Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations within a construction environment.
Working knowledge of Sage 200 ERP software.

Hours of Work

Our office hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Thursday, 8:00am - 3:00pm on Friday's.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: Up to £55,000.00 per year
