Heronswood Canine Retreat is a boutique canine facility set on beautiful grounds, formal lawns, flowerbeds and shrubs, hard landscaping and activity areas. We provide attentive care for dogs and a calm, attractive environment for guests. We’re hiring a reliable, experienced groundskeeper to maintain the property to a high standard.
Role summary
You will be responsible for day-to-day upkeep of lawns, planting areas, paths and hardscapes, ensuring the grounds are safe, tidy and attractive for dogs and visitors. Experience with general maintenance and light repairs is a strong advantage.
Key responsibilities
- Mow, edge and maintain lawns to a high standard
- Prune, trim and care for shrubs, hedges, trees and flowerbeds
- Planting, weeding, mulching, fertilising and pest/disease monitoring
- Maintain hardscape areas: sweep, blow, pressure-wash, clear drains and debris
- Operate and maintain gardening equipment (mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, blowers, pressure washers, etc.)
- Seasonal tasks: leaf clearance, winterisation, planting seasonal displays
- Set up and maintain irrigation systems; monitor and repair as needed
- Monitor grounds for safety hazards (fencing, gates, surfaces) and report or fix issues
- Carry out light general maintenance and repairs (fixing gates, decking, fencing, painting) where competent
- Keep tool shed, equipment and fuel stores organised, clean and safe
- Work with management to plan landscaping projects and source materials
- Maintain records of work, supplies and incidents
Essential skills & experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in groundskeeping, horticulture or professional gardening
- Confident operation of common grounds equipment and safe use of power tools
- Practical knowledge of plant care, turf management and pest control
- Basic DIY/maintenance skills (carpentry, fencing, painting) preferred
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions; physically fit for manual tasks
- Attention to detail, reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently
- Good communication skills and comfortable working around animals
- Valid UK driving licence
Schedule: typical daytime hours; some flexibility required for seasonal work and events
