Full job description

The School of Physics and Astronomy is a leading academic unit with a strong international reputation for excellence. It delivers high-quality education while advancing cutting-edge research.

We are seeking a proactive and organised Physics Senior Teaching Laboratory Technician to lead our small technical team and ensure the provision of high-quality technical support for undergraduate teaching laboratories. This is a 12-month fixed term contract with an end date of 30th September 2027.

Working as part of the team you will

Supervise and lead a small team of laboratory technicians, providing day to day support where required.
Plan, coordinate and oversee the preparation and set-up of practical laboratory sessions, ensuring equipment is available and ready to use.
Carry out first-line diagnosis, maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment.
Maintain teaching laboratories to a high standard, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Provide technical expertise during laboratory teaching sessions.
Manage laboratory equipment including inventory control, procurement and replacement planning.
Work collegiately with academic staff to support the delivery of teaching activities and develop practical experiments.
Support departmental open days, outreach activities and public engagement events.
