Porthpean Outdoor is Cornwall's leading outdoor education and activity centre. Based overlooking the stunning St. Austell Bay, we offer a fantastically equipped centre with a range of on-site activities, accommodation and dining facilities, plus our own beach.
As an Outdoor Activity Instructor at Porthpean Outdoor, you will deliver a high standard of outdoor programmes to school groups, individuals, and community groups. For our centre residentials, you will accompany groups throughout their stay, becoming the fulcrum of their experience on camp, forming bonds and memories that will last a lifetime.
- Ensure all sessions are set up correctly, safe and ready for use.
- Deliver clear, confident briefings on how to complete the activities. Offer continuous guidance throughout the session to promote learning and progression.
- Maintain the safety of the group during activities.
- Encourage participation and engagement from all individuals, adjusting the session’s pace to suit the group’s learning needs.
- Conclude sessions efficiently, ensuring the area is restored, equipment is returned, and all required logs are completed.
- Greet and welcome visitors to the centre, leading welcome tours and providing clear and professional communication with both guests and colleagues.
- Maintain high personal standards of technical skill and professionalism throughout all activities.
- Adhere to all risk assessments and operational procedures at all times.
- Carry out maintenance tasks as required and undertake other duties within your ability as needed to support centre operations.
Activities at Porthpean Outdoor include:
- High ropes
- Climbing walls
- Indoor caving
- Kayaking
- Coasteering
- Archery
- Paddle Boarding and Mega SUP's
- Camp Craft and Team Building
- Plus, many more including evening activities such as Laser Tag and Silent Disco.
For anyone representing Porthpean Outdoor, you must be a likeable individual with a warm and upbeat personality to help welcome in the thousands of children and young people that stay at our centre every year. You will be responsible, reliable, organised, flexible, and able to provide glowing references. You will need to be flexible as we operate 7 days a week and offer evening activities which will provide opportunities for over time earnings.
In return for all your amazingness, we will endeavour to create a job that is diverse, rewarding, and above all, fun. We will aim to create a place of work where everyone, no matter their role or the hours a week they work, are valued and respected.
