An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 registered nurse to join our integrated stroke unit in Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The ward is a 23 bedded acute stroke unit within the medical directorate, which provides 24 hour stroke assessment and ongoing care. We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, highly motivated nurses with a passion for delivering excellent standards of care even under pressure. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. As part of the multi-disciplinary team work closely within the stroke services and also have regular contact with other specialties within the hospital and community setting.
The acute stroke unit has introduced hyperacute/acute/rehab sections within the unit. All staff will have the opportunity to work in the different sections in particular the hyperacute unit when there will be the opportunity to care for patients directly from ED post thrombolysis and also direct admissions.
You will have the opportunity to learn and develop specialist skills in the assessment and care of the stroke patient. Alongside the Stroke consultant you will be involved in the assessment of patients in the ED department when thrombolysis treatment is being considered. You will be supported in your role with ongoing training which includes the completion of specific stroke core competencies and Stroke and TIA assessment. As part of the multi-disciplinary team the post holder will have the responsibility for assessment, delivery and supervision of the care needs or their patients.
You will play an integral role in the stroke pathway by liaising closely with the staff in AAU and ED to ensure smooth, timely and appropriate transfer of patients to the Acute Stroke Unit, in line with the current Stroke improvement plan.
You will have the opportunity to progress your own professional development and gain specialist knowledge and skills by having access to a range of informal learning opportunities and also CPD sessions.
The successful applicant must demonstrate an interest and understand the complexities of caring for patients who have had a stroke. Although not essential ideally the post holder would have stroke experience and an awareness of the core and advanced stroke core modules. You will be expected to act as a positive role model to junior and unregistered staff, demonstrating an interest in the development of the unit and working towards maintaining and improving the standards of care.
For informal enquiries contact Senior Charge nurse Nyree Phillips 01324 567583.
The duties of this post require the successful candidate to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. More information on this scheme can be found at www.disclosurescotland.co.uk
As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
