Orthopaedic Oncology Fellow (ST3+) 12 month fixed term contract starting October 2026
The Guildford Orthopaedic Oncology Fellow will be part of the T&O Resident (ST3+ grade) including on-call rota and will develop this role liaising closely with Katy Western (Trauma and Oncology Co-ordinator), Mr Acton who is the Oncology lead for the department, and Mr Hughes the T&O Clinical Director.
Fellow will be:
- Receiving and processing the acute oncology referrals as the orthopaedic medical and clinical point of contact.
- Liaising with oncology.
- Coordinating and ensuring investigations are ordered and reviewed.
- Working patients up for surgery.
- Attending specialist theatre lists.
- Follow up arrangements and liaising with Oncology.
- Ensuring referrals to Stanmore if required (EPIC referral software) and communicating any advice from there to the relevant clinicians.
- BOOS attendance.
The post holder would work within the orthopaedic department under the supervision of our consultants. They would be expected to join the on-call rota, 1 in 11 non-resident on-call, with the existing registrar body. They would participate in ward, clinic and operating lists in conjunction with a supervising consultant and independently in their absence.
The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to audit, research and training within the orthopaedic department. The hospital has access to the MATTU facility, in which to conduct research and development.
The Trauma and Orthopaedic department, entirely sited at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, has two wards, Bramshott and Ewhurst Ward. Day Surgery is performed in a dedicated NHS facility within the confines of the Guildford Nuffield Hospital. We occupy four operating theatres with laminar flow within the main frame of the hospital. The Musculoskeletal (MSk) service, together with Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinics are held in a self-contained outpatient unit in close proximity to A&E and the Radiology department, the outpatient unit has a plaster room dedicated to Orthopaedics and Trauma.
There are full supporting services in the departments of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. The department of Orthopaedics has two Trauma Co-ordinators and an Elective Nurse Co-ordinator. Pre-assessment clinics for elective inpatients are held in the department. The department is in the forefront of day case surgery and day surgery cases are pre-assessed in the Day Unit.

The post holder would work within the orthopaedic department under the supervision of one of the existing 18 permanent Consultants.
The post holder would gain clinical and operative experience in in both elective
orthopaedics and trauma surgery. They would be expected to join the on-call rota 1 in 11 with the existing registrar body. They would participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics (fracture and elective) and operating lists in conjunction with a supervising consultant, and independently where appropriate.
