Full job description

Job summary:

The post holder will be required to work across both sites as part of the the therapy team which includes occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech & language, psychology and dietetics. Staff at CFNC work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) alongside the nursing and care team. This also involves bringing together professionals of different backgrounds to work as a team in devising and implementing care packages to meet the individual needs and requirements of each resident.

Salary is dependant on experience in neurological practice

Job Summary:

The role of the Senior Occupational Therapist will be to provide high quality rehabilitation care to our residents. This will involve a range of neurological and MSK assessment and intervention skills, across different phases of treatment (slow stream rehabilitation to long term maintenance). You will be required to carry out individual and group therapy sessions within these phases of treatment.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

1. To promote effective and evidence based treatment ensuring that each Resident has an individualised and person centred plan which is realistic and positive within their range of abilities;

2. To ensure that all treatments are performed in accordance with best practice as indicated by The College of Occupational Therapy and The Health Professions Council;

3. To liaise with internal and external teams, including attending annual review meetings and external appointments with the Residents;

4. Ability to coordinate discharge planning for residents aiming to return to community living.

5. To record outcomes objectively and to respond to changing needs;

6. To ensure that all records are maintained and stored confidentially;

7. To perform as a member of the interdisciplinary team and ensure that information is shared accurately and appropriately both verbally and in written form;

8. To become conversant with and apply relevant Castel Froma Neuro Care’s policies and procedures;

9. To take a responsible attitude to personal health and safety and to that of colleagues, Residents and visitors to the centre;

Candidate Specification:

1. Hold a professional qualification recognised by The British Association of Occupational Therapists and registered with The Health Professions Council (HCPC);

2. At least 2 years' clinical experience working as an Occupational Therapist;

3. To have effective knowledge of occupational performance assessment in neurological conditions. This includes:

Assessments of client factors and performance skills such as ROM, tone, muscle power, sensation, co-ordination, attention, memory, judgement etc;
Assessments of occupational performance areas such as personal management (dressing, bathing, toileting), productive use of time (task concept, routine);

4. To have effective knowledge of OT treatment planning and execution, in neurological conditions, within a multi-disciplinary team. This includes:

Understanding of upper limb splinting in neurological care which can be developed into skill with supervision and guidance;
Awareness of the use of graded programmes to achieve maximal independence in Occupational performance (ADL's and IADL's);
Development of wellbeing programmes to optimise occupational meaning and purpose.

5. Be able to build effective working relationships with team members and outside colleagues, Residents and relatives;

6. To have a positive attitude and enthusiasm towards Residents and the wider work of the centre;

7. To be well organised, with effective time management skills;

8. To appreciate the therapeutic use of leisure time and complementary therapies and their application;

9. Have a valid driving licence for the UK and be prepared to travel to training and assessments. Motivation to learn to drive the adapted vehicles would be preferable.

Additional specifications which would be beneficial:

Knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation;
Knowledge of Vona du Toit's Model of Creative Ability;
Experience in Mental Capacity assessment and DOLs;
Group Therapy experience and skill.
