Job Summary
SM Accountants is a well established and forward thinking accountancy practice seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our team in Birmingham. Duties
As an Assistant Accountant, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of accounting and financial services to a diverse client portfolio. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing statutory accounts, management accounts and supporting working papers for a range of clients.
- Processing purchase ledger and sales ledger transactions.
- Completing bank reconciliations and resolving any discrepancies.
- Preparing and processing weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls.
- Assisting clients with payroll related queries.
- Posting journals and maintaining accurate accounting records.
- Producing and submitting VAT returns.
- Supporting senior team members with ad hoc accounting and finance duties as required.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a reliable and detail oriented individual who is capable of working independently and maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
The successful candidate should be able to manage deadlines effectively, complete tasks with minimal supervision and demonstrate a proactive approach to their work. The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years practical experience gained within either an accountancy practice or an industry based finance role.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Previous accounting experience gained within an accountancy practice or finance environment.
- Experience using Xero or QuickBooks, with the ability to work confidently on at least one of these accounting software packages.
- Good understanding of bookkeeping principles and accounting processes.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- Experience using Moneysoft Payroll software.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
- Relevant accounting qualification or currently studying towards one.
Pay: £10.85-£13.00 per hour
