Workshop Technician

Location: Workshop based - Unit 10, Epsom Downs Metro Centre. Waterfield, Tadworth, Surrey, KT20 5LR

35 hours per week (09.00 - 17.00 Monday to Friday)

£26,300 per annum

29 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)

Pension - matched company pension contribution (up to 6%)

Sleep Advice Service

Cerebra understands that if you have a child that doesn’t sleep, the whole family suffers. Many children with neurological conditions suffer from disrupted sleep. Our sleep advice service provides bespoke advice and support so that everyone can get a good night’s sleep.

Legal Rights Service

Our Legal Rights Service provides help and support to families of children with neurological conditions when they are faced with barriers and difficulties in accessing statutory support services they are entitled to. The service provides information on their legal entitlements.

Book and Toy Library Service

Our specialist postal lending library contains a wide range of books for both adults and children, plus a selection of sensory toys specifically chosen for children with brain conditions.

Innovation and Product Design Service

Our Innovation Service designs and builds bespoke products that cater to the specific needs of children with neurological conditions. therefore, the service is to make products that are desirable and exciting, therefore promoting social inclusion, peer acceptance and enabling the disabled child to participate in everyday activities that are so often closed to them.

Information Products

Cerebra publishes different information products to help families with a child with a neurological condition. Our information products offer comprehensive, up-to-date support and research-driven strategies to assist families with a wide range of issues.

Our services are provided to families free of charge.

Purpose of the Role

The Workshop Technician will play an important role in the manufacture and adaptation of products for Cerebra. Using a range of manufacturing and adaptation techniques, you will be responsible for adapting toys and other products to ensure that they are suitable to support children with neurological conditions and their families.

The Workshop Technician plays a key hands-on role, supporting the manufacturing and delivery of assistive products for children with neurological conditions. Working closely with the wider team and volunteers, the role focuses on adaptation, manufacture, assembly, and refinement from early builds through to final delivery. 

The Workshop Technician is a skilled and independent practitioner, producing high-quality physical outcomes and applying sound workshop judgement, while contributing practical insight to support improvements in build quality, efficiency, and repeatability. The role does not hold line-management or strategic leadership responsibility but requires strong technical competence, organisation, and ownership of making activity. This role will assist our volunteers within the workshop environment.

Key Areas of Responsibility

1. Workshop Tasks

To assemble and recondition Bugzis, a powered wheelchair for children aged under 5.
To manufacture and assemble Cerebra’s range of products for sale.
To work with the other Workshop Technicians to support volunteers engaged in the assembly of Cerebra products.
Training volunteers in soldering, packing and assembly.
Conducting and assisting in corporate day volunteering events.
To ensure that all products are manufactured in line with Cerebra’s quality systems and compliance guidelines.
To work with the Cerebra Design Lead to optimise quality and efficiency across the production process
To undertake administration related to equipment production and supply
To liaise with the administration team to provide technical support to families with Bugzis
Resin and silicone moulding.
Electrical Soldering.
Maintenance and correct use of:

Power tools and hand tools.

3D printing and laser cutting

Pillar drill, bandsaw.

To ensure products are prepared for shipping to clients.
To monitor stock component levels and liaise with the administration team to facilitate stock takes.
To undertake Health and Safety inspection duties related to the work area and contribute to Health and Safety team duties.
To support the team to reach activity targets
To attend and contribute to team meetings as required.
To ensure work areas are kept clean and tidy, workshop housekeeping and organisation.

2. Other Duties

You must read and ensure you understand the current versions of Cerebra’s policies and procedures and undertake to act in accordance with them at all times.
You may be required to work at other locations in accordance with the responsibilities and duties of your role.
