We are seeking a careful and dependable Associate Scientist to support the delivery of established laboratory workflows that are central to our preclinical research programmes. The data generated in this role directly informs scientific interpretation and programme decisions meaning reliability, accuracy, and consistency will be essential.
This position will focus on the precise, reproducible execution of established laboratory techniques, including sterile mammalian cell culture, molecular biology workflows, and immunological assays. You will work with primary cells and controlled protocols where attention to detail, consistency, and adherence to process are critical. In addition to experimental execution, as you grow into a key contributor, you will help monitor assay performance, identify technical deviations, and support careful troubleshooting and incremental optimisation of laboratory methods.
This role is well suited to someone who takes pride in methodical bench work, values reproducibility and good laboratory practice, and enjoys contributing to a stable, well-organised laboratory environment, all while developing strong technical expertise across cell biology, molecular biology, and applied immunology within the cancer immunotherapy field.
Key responsibilities
- Perform laboratory experiments to support research programmes, including sterile mammalian cell culture, molecular biology workflows, and cell-based assays.
- Execute established experimental protocols, generating high-quality and reproducible data while maintaining attention to detail.
- Work as part of the lab team to support in general laboratory maintenance and operations, including taking responsibility for equipment upkeep.
- Maintenance of accurate record-keeping, utilising electronic lab books.
- Play a role in team-wide assay problem-solving and trouble-shooting.
- Assist with basic data analysis and figure design.
- Contribute to method development and SOP updates.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- BSc in molecular biology, cell biology, biomedical sciences, immunology, or a related life sciences discipline.
- At least 1 year’s hands-on laboratory experience (academic or industry).
- At least 1 year’s hands-on experience performing sterile mammalian cell culture and maintaining aseptic technique.
- At least 6 months’ direct experience with molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR and qRT-PCR.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols precisely.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to work as part of the wider lab team.
- Good organisational skills and record-keeping.
- Basic understanding of immunology or cell biology, with a willingness to develop knowledge of immunological assays where required.
Desirable:
- At least 6 months’ experience working with immunological assays including in-vitro T-cell proliferation and T-cell killing assays.
- At least 6 months experience working with a viral vector system.
- At least 6 months’ hands-on experience with flow cytometry, including sample prep and analysis.
- At least 6 months experience working with primary human samples, including PBMCs.
- Understanding of what is required for laboratory management and upkeep.
- At least 6 months work experience in a biotech or translational research environment.
- Experience working with in vivo murine tumour models.
