Job Summary

Pharmacy Aseptics is a truly unique environment to work in, with career progression at its heart.

We are a specialist branch of Pharmacy that works tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring life changing and lifesaving medications and treatments are prepared, this particular role is pivotal to achieving this.

This is an exciting and progressive role, with potentially many different aspects to it. The main duties of the position are:

Supervision of our cleanrooms.
Chemocare input.
Production of aseptic products.
Deputising for PTHL/SMTHL.
Potential specialist projects.

You will need to be pro-active, dynamic and enthusiastic to undertake this role. You will also need to have excellent communication skills, great attention to detail, leadership and supervisory experience.

You will also be required to have at least one of the following qualifications: NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services / NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent/ Science Manufacturing Technician. If you are due to complete your respective qualification within the next 6 months, you are also welcome to apply.

The role is based across our two Aseptics sites, at the LGI and at St James.

What you will bring to the role

Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and co-ordination of aseptic staff, preparation and dispensing activities within clean rooms and associated areas to provide efficient and high quality clinical technical services, wards and clinics within the Trust.
Aseptically prepare medicines including clinical trials medication (site dependant) and complete all required documentation following the defined Standard Operating Procedures. Accuracy, dexterity, manipulation and a degree of speed in the preparation and dispensing/assembly of medicines against written prescriptions/requisitions.
Evaluates circumstances and situations and makes well-judged decisions on the information at hand but is aware when to refer to more senior supervisors and managers.
Organises and prioritises work within assembly and preparation areas covering fast track and routine service requirements.
Is responsible for in-process checking of medicinal materials and measured doses including the preparation of clinical trials; and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of these prepared medicinal products.
Responsible of the safe use of equipment within clean tooms and associated areas, ensuring staff use equipment in accordance with instructions and SOP's.
Assists staff with training and development.
Contributes to the development of new ways of working and to the implementation of new and revised policies and procedures.
Ensures all statutory legislation and established quality systems relating to departmental policies and procedures are complied with on a day-to-day basis.
Documents, labels, assemble, prepare and dispense aseptic medicines to patients, wards and clinics, including controlled drugs and clinical trials. Maintains correct documentation and audit trials.
