Full job description

Full or part time positions for experienced Gardeners to join our family owned company based in Wakefield. We have three full time teams providing garden and grounds maintenance to private and commercial properties throughout Yorkshire.

Candidates should have experience of:

Grass cutting with walk behind and ride on mowers
Edging with sheers and strimmers
Weeding and hoeing
Hedgetrimming
Plant knowledge
Working as part of team and dealing with customers

Desirable skills:

Experience of commercial grounds maintenance
Spraying certificates
Chainsaw licence
Driving licence
First aid
Working with chippers/ shredders

After spending almost 20 years at a large national grounds maintenance company, I was cautious before joining West County Landscapes; Would there be enough work to keep me employed for the full year? Would I fit into a smaller family run business?

Almost 3 years on I can honestly say its one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and my doubts were unnecessary. I have learned so much from Andrew the Company Director, his decades of experience within the industry are invaluable. The work is sometimes physically challenging, the working day can be longer in peak season and weather conditions aren’t always great but these are all things to be expecting when working in horticulture.

The whole team come from a variety of different backgrounds bringing there own skillset, everyone is friendly, welcoming and hardworking. Even though we can have teams working separately we all keep in touch throughout the day helping each other out when needed. Its great to be part of such an ambitious and motivated team.

I enjoy the variety of work, getting to know new people, learning from my colleagues and passing on my own knowledge to them, I feel appreciated for my hard work and the skills I bring, these are just some of the reasons I enjoy working at West County Landscapes.

Pay: £13.50-£16.00 per hour
