We are seeking an experienced senior scientist with strong expertise in biophysical interaction analysis to support the development, optimisation and delivery of affinity binder programmes across a range of challenging targets.
This role will play a key part in strengthening and developing our interaction analysis capability, supporting both internal platform development and customer-facing projects within a fast-paced biotechnology environment.
The role
The successful candidate will lead and support biophysical characterisation activities, with a strong focus on Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) and/or Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR).
You will be responsible for designing, developing, troubleshooting and optimising interaction assays, generating high-quality kinetic and affinity data, and supporting scientific decision-making across multiple projects.
The role requires strong technical expertise alongside the ability to work collaboratively across scientific and operational teams, helping drive high standards of experimental delivery and continuous improvement.
Main responsibilities
- Design, develop and optimise Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) and/or Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) assays to support internal and customer-facing projects
- Generate, analyse and interpret kinetic and affinity binding data to support scientific decision-making
- Troubleshoot complex assay, instrument and experimental issues to ensure high-quality and reproducible data generation
- Support the development and continuous improvement of interaction analysis workflows and processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional scientific teams including Proteins, Cells, Automation and Data/AI functions
- Maintain accurate experimental records, data analysis and technical documentation
- Support delivery of project timelines within a fast-paced commercial environment
- Mentor and provide technical support to junior scientists where required
- Contribute to scientific discussions, problem solving and continuous improvement activities across the business
- Ensure laboratory activities are performed in accordance with company procedures and quality standards
About You
- You have a minimum of 2 years’ hands-on industrial experience using Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) and/or Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR)
- You have strong experience designing, optimising and troubleshooting interaction assays
- You are confident generating, analysing and interpreting kinetic and affinity binding data
- You have experience working within a biotechnology, CRO or pharmaceutical environment
- You are highly organised with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- You can work independently whilst also collaborating effectively across teams
- You are comfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving scientific environment
- You have strong communication skills and can clearly present scientific findings and technical information
Qualifications & Experience
- BSc or MSc in Biological Sciences (or related discipline) with relevant industry experience
- Experience using Octet, Biacore or similar interaction analysis platforms
- Experience supporting automation or high-throughput workflows
- Knowledge of aptamers, antibodies or other affinity binders
- Previous mentoring or leadership experience
- Experience supporting customer-facing scientific projects
