Job Title: Speech and Language Therapist
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team. The Speech and Language Therapist will play a crucial role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating children with a wide range of speech, language, and communication disorders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in speech and language therapy, excellent clinical skills, and a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of children and their families.
Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of children's' speech, language, and communication skills, including standardised testing, observation, and interviews with children and their families. Formulate individualised development plans based on assessment findings, in collaboration with children, families, and other members of the team. Implement evidence-based therapy interventions to address children's specific communication goals and needs, utilising a variety of techniques and modalities, such as articulation therapy, language stimulation, fluency therapy, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems. Provide direct therapy sessions to children, both individually and in groups, using a child-centred and holistic approach to support their communication development and participation in daily activities. Offer guidance, support, and training to families, caregivers, and educators on strategies and techniques to facilitate communication and language development at home, the provision and in the community. Monitor and evaluate children's progress regularly, adjusting development plans as needed to optimise outcomes and ensure ongoing engagement and motivation. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of assessment results, development plans, progress notes, and summaries in accordance with professional and regulatory standards. Collaborate with other professionals, such as teachers, occupational therapists, and psychologists, to provide coordinated and integrated care for children with complex needs. Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices with colleagues and contribute to the continuous improvement of services. Stay informed about current research, trends, and advancements in the field of speech and language therapy through ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Speech and Language Therapy or a related field from an accredited institution.
Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Speech and Language Therapist is preferred. Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience working as a speech and language therapist, preferably in a clinical or community setting. Specialist knowledge and experience in assessing and treating a wide range of speech, language, and communication disorders across the lifespan, including but not limited to articulation disorders, language delay, developmental language disorder, stuttering, voice disorders, and social communication difficulties. Demonstrated clinical skills in conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualised treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based therapy interventions to achieve positive outcomes. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport, establish trust, and communicate effectively with children, families, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Strong problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
