This graduate role offers the opportunity to develop into a multi-disciplinary power systems engineer through structured training, international project exposure, and hands-on experience across consultancy, commissioning, field engineering, and maintenance activities.
Role
We are seeking a Power Systems Consultant with 3–8 years of experience who combines strong technical capability with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
The successful candidate will support the delivery of technical consultancy, engineering studies, and advisory services across transmission, HVDC, FACTS, renewable energy, and grid infrastructure projects worldwide.
This role is suited to engineers who enjoy analysing complex technical challenges, engaging directly with clients, and influencing project outcomes through sound engineering judgement. The successful candidate will be expected to operate independently, develop trusted client relationships, and contribute to the growth of IMES' international consulting capability.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
· Deliver power system consultancy assignments for transmission, distribution, renewable energy, and industrial power projects.
· Review engineering studies
· Analyse technical data and develop practical engineering recommendations for clients.
· Conduct technical due diligence and independent engineering reviews for project developers, lenders, investors, and asset owners.
· Evaluate electrical system designs, specifications, and technical documentation for major infrastructure projects.
· Prepare high-quality technical reports, feasibility studies, engineering assessments, and client deliverables.
Client Advisory & Stakeholder Management
· Act as a technical interface between IMES and its clients.
· Participate in client workshops, design reviews, and technical meetings.
· Present technical findings and recommendations to engineering teams, project stakeholders, and senior management.
· Support clients in identifying technical risks, project challenges, and mitigation strategies.
· Build and maintain strong working relationships with utilities, developers, EPC contractors, OEMs, and asset owners.
Engineering & Project Support
· Provide specialist technical support to ongoing HV, HVDC, and FACTS projects.
· Support troubleshooting and root cause investigations on operational power system assets.
· Review protection philosophies, control systems, commissioning strategies, and operational performance.
· Participate in selected site visits, technical audits, inspections, and engineering assessments where required.
· Support project teams with technical decision-making and engineering problem solving.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–8 years of relevant experience within:
- Power system engineering
- Utilities or TSOs
- Transmission and distribution projects
- Engineering consultancy
- HVDC, FACTS, or substation projects
- OEM engineering environments
- Strong understanding of transmission and distribution systems.
- Experience preparing technical reports, engineering studies, and client-facing deliverables.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working directly with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple technical assignments.
- Willingness to travel internationally when required.
- Full UK driving licence or equivalent.

Renumeration and additional information
Employment Type: Permanent full time position
Salary: £62,000 - £85000 gross per annum depending on experience. Uplifts and allowances are provided for customer or site-based assignments, reflecting the nature, duration, and location of project work.
Travel & Allowances: Travel, accommodation, and subsistence expenses will be covered in accordance with company policy. Additional allowances may be provided for extended site assignments.
