Role: Environments & Release Engineer

Location: We operate a hybrid schedule, meaning 2-3 days a week in the office based at Thorpe Park, Leeds.

Salary: £ DOE plus extensive benefits

Contract type: Permanent

Working hours: We work on a core hours principle. Our core hours are 09:30 - 16:00; you can work around these to suit you!

Our tech teams keep us running 24/7 to make sure all our patients get world class service. To support that, this role may include participation in an out-of-hours rota as required by the business. We operate fair scheduling process as well as additional compensation for all on call periods.

This role will see you keeping non‑production environments fast, reliable, and ready for change. The Environments & Release Engineer owns the health and consistency of lower environments, keeping them aligned with Production so teams can build, test, and release with confidence using realistic data.

The role involves spinning environments up when needed, keeping them running smoothly, and retiring them cleanly helping reduce defects and make delivery more predictable. Working closely with engineers, testers, and architects, this role takes real ownership, spots issues early, and communicates clearly when it matters.

What you’ll be doing?

Build and maintain robust, secure, and scalable platforms in a hybrid cloud environment using technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and Helm.
Keep non‑production environments baselined and aligned with Production, including regular code and data copybacks.
Manage environment configuration, variables, and secrets in line with security and compliance standards.
Support sprint and release cycles by ensuring lower environments are up to date, available, and fit for purpose ahead of testing and release activities.
Monitor environment health, reliability, and performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact delivery.
Create, configure, and, where appropriate, decommission environments to support projects, test phases, and experiments.
Drive automation and tooling to reduce manual effort across Azure environments and CI/CD pipelines.
Partner with Development, Architecture, and Infrastructure teams to align initiatives and promote standardisation and best practice.
Create and maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and environment diagrams to support reliable, repeatable operations.
Contribute to continuous improvement of route‑to‑live processes, including feedback into release management, testing, and observability.

Who are we looking for?

Strong scripting capability in at least one language (e.g. Bash, Python, or PowerShell).
Strong troubleshooting skills with a logical, automation‑first mindset.
Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (ideally Azure DevOps) and modern Git‑based branching strategies.
Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce high‑quality documentation.
Ability to manage multiple environments and competing priorities in a structured and organised way.
High‑level understanding of Kubernetes concepts such as pods, deployments, services, and ingress.
