Full job description

We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Technical Trainer to join our manufacturing team and play a key role in developing the skills and capability of our production workforce at Teconnex

This hands-on position focuses on delivering practical training in spot welding processes, ensuring employees are competent, safe, and capable of meeting quality and production standards. Working closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Operational teams, you will support the development of a highly skilled workforce while driving continuous improvement across the business.

Key ResponsibilitiesTraining & Development

Deliver practical, hands-on training in spot welding techniques to new and existing employees using validated process settings.
Assess employee competence and provide coaching to ensure safe and effective working practices.
Support workforce development by maintaining training matrices and competency records.
Ensure all training activities comply with company standards, SOPs, and quality requirements.
Assist in reducing defects, scrap, and rework through effective training and guidance.

Coaching & Support

Demonstrate the correct use, setup, and maintenance of spot welding equipment.
Adapt training methods to suit different learning styles and capability levels.
Support employees during onboarding, skill development, and competency assessments.
Provide support and cover within the wider training and production support teams when required.

Communication & Reporting

Maintain accurate training records, assessments, and competency sign-offs.
Monitor trainee progress and provide regular feedback to management.
Identify and escalate training gaps, performance concerns, and development opportunities.
Develop action plans to support employee progression and performance improvement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Team Leaders, and Planning teams to ensure training aligns with operational requirements.
Support workforce capability planning and succession development.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives relating to skills development, training materials, and work instructions.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Promote a strong safety culture and ensure training is delivered in line with safe working practices.
Ensure correct PPE usage and safe operation of welding equipment.
Identify and report hazards, near misses, incidents, and unsafe behaviours.
Support compliance with company Health & Safety policies and procedures.

What We're Looking ForEssential Experience & Skills

Proven experience in spot welding within a manufacturing environment.
Strong practical knowledge of welding equipment and processes.
Excellent understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
Experience training, coaching, or developing employees on the shop floor.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Advanced problem-solving capability including Root Cause Analysis, A3, and 8D methodologies.
Experience using KPIs and performance data to drive improvements.
Good understanding of lean manufacturing principles and quality systems.

Desirable Experience

Previous experience in a formal training, coaching, mentoring, or technical trainer role.
Automotive manufacturing experience or similar high-volume production environment.
Welding qualifications or recognised certifications.
Experience working with SOPs, quality standards, and inspection criteria.
Continuous Improvement or Lean qualifications (Yellow Belt, Green Belt, etc.).
Knowledge of ISO and customer quality standards.

Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering, Manufacturing, Fabrication & Welding, or a related discipline.
Train the Trainer qualification (desirable).
Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement qualifications (desirable).
