Leicester City Council is looking to recruit an organised and proactive Traffic Management Support Officer to provide effective administrative, operational and financial support to the Traffic Management Team and associated transport services. The successful candidate will support the smooth operation of the city’s transport network by helping to ensure accurate and up-to-date traffic and travel information is communicated efficiently to relevant stakeholders and the public.
The role will involve providing comprehensive administrative support to the team including arranging meetings, taking accurate minutes, monitoring actions, managing records and responding to correspondence. You will manage shared inboxes, support managers with the implementation of new systems and procedures, assist with training administration, risk assessments and business continuity planning, and ensure actions are completed within agreed deadlines. You will also support the team with general administration including raising invoices, liaising with utility companies, monitoring vehicle licence checks, ordering supplies and dealing with more complex customer enquiries.
You will work closely with traffic engineers and key stakeholders to collate, analyse and distribute traffic and roadworks information. Responsibilities will include managing traffic information updates through social media channels, responding to network and control room incidents, liaising with emergency services and media contacts, reporting traffic signal faults.
The role also includes financial administration duties such as processing purchase orders and invoices, monitoring budgets and cost centres, reconciling supplier statements, investigating discrepancies and maintaining accurate financial records using the Council’s financial systems.
The successful candidate will have excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under pressure whilst meeting strict deadlines. You should have experience of administrative and financial processes, strong IT skills including Microsoft Office applications, financial monitoring systems and the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, suppliers, partner agencies and stakeholders. Experience of producing reports, processing financial documents, spreadsheets, presentations and maintaining accurate records is essential.

What you’ll be doing
Working in a small team under the direction of a team leader, you’ll be liaising with emergency services, local bus operators, maintenance engineers, utility companies and external contractors, as well as frequent contact with members of the public. You’ll use CCTV cameras to monitor the highway network identify problems. Making use of Intelligent Transport Systems to influence traffic flow, you’ll inform and co-ordinate with press office response to incidents and disseminate information to road users via social media and roadside signs. You’ll support maintenance operations, answer phone calls and emails from stakeholders and members of the public.

You’ll have strong administration experience with the ability to follow procedures and making appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment. Positive, committed with proficient IT skills and excellent communication skills, you’ll be able to work calmly under pressure. With the ability to think logically and methodically, you’ll be able to apply sound judgement when dealing with difficult situations. You’ll be able to communicate clearly and concisely with members of the public, external contractors and clients as well as internal colleagues.
