Senior Bookkeeper / Finance Manager (20 Hours Per Week, Hybrid)
We’re Looking for More Than a Bookkeeper
Most bookkeeping jobs are about entering numbers.
This one is about understanding them.
We operate across a handful of businesses, including garden design, landscaping, and business consultancy in UK, Ireland, and Marbella, Spain. We're growing, we're ambitious, and we're building systems that allow the business to scale without chaos.
That's why we're looking for someone who doesn't simply process transactions, but someone who genuinely enjoys helping business owners understand what's happening behind the numbers.
We're looking for a financially minded person who takes pride in accuracy, enjoys spotting trends, and isn't afraid to ask questions when something doesn't look right.
In short, we want someone who treats the business as if it were their own.
Responsibilities
You'll be responsible for ensuring our financial information is accurate, up to date, and available when decisions need to be made.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash position reports
- Providing simple commentary and insights on business performance
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, supplier accounts and director loan accounts
- Maintaining accurate financial records across multiple businesses
- Working alongside our external accountant to ensure a smooth year-end process
- Supporting the directors with financial information and reporting when required
- Helping improve systems and processes as the business continues to grow
Who we are looking for
You'll probably enjoy this role if:
- You naturally spot discrepancies and investigate them
- You like understanding why the numbers changed, not just entering them
- You take deadlines seriously and rarely need reminding
- You communicate financial information in plain English
- You enjoy creating order and clarity
- You have strong bookkeeping experience and are confident working independently
- You are comfortable challenging assumptions when the numbers suggest something different
Most importantly, you'll care about the outcome, not just the task.
What you'll receive
- 20 hours per week
- Hybrid working arrangement
- 2 days per week in our Melton Mowbray office
- Great salary (agreed with the right person)
- Company pension
- A direct working relationship with the directors
- The opportunity to play a key role in a growing group of businesses
- A business that values accuracy, initiative, and common sense
A good fit for this role?
You'll enjoy working with us if you like solving problems, creating clarity, and helping business owners make better decisions.
You won't enjoy it if you're simply looking for a job where nobody asks questions beyond whether the VAT return has been submitted.
