Being a Contact Handler means you are the first point of call for our communities when they need us the most.
You’ll be part of a dedicated team dealing with emergency situations, identifying incidents, assessing risk, protecting the vulnerable and preventing harm. Your adaptability, compassion and calm approach will be vital.
Working side by side with police officers and staff, you will ensure all 999/101 emergency and non-emergency calls are handled quickly, professionally, and calmly.
You’ll be handling a diverse range of calls, often complex, from missing person reports to road traffic incidents and crimes unfolding in real time. You’ll be the first point of contact for individuals at their most vulnerable, ensuring you’re listening and accurately recording every part of the call.
This role has a fixed based at Force Headquarters, Leicestershire Police and is full-time.
We are looking to start people in October 2026 and January 2027 onwards.
The Shifts

24 hour, 7 days a week shift pattern

Rotating shifts of 4 days on and 4 days off including evenings, nights, and weekends

Typical shifts within the pattern are 07:00 - 19:00 or 19:00 - 07:00
Salary:
-
Basic starting salary of £27,204 during training (approx. 11-13 weeks).

Gross pay is around £34,300, including shift allowance and weekend working.

The top salary for the role is around £38,800, and will be reached through annual increments over 5 years.

Assessment / Interview - this involves a 2 hour session including an interview, role play and data input capability assessment, and will be held at Force Headquarters. We have availability to run these 7 days a week, meaning you can choose a slot to suit your diary.

Due to the nature of security checks undertaken, applicants must have 3 years continuous residency in the UK at the time of application.
