Our Operational Support Officers play a critical role, providing excellent telephony and administrative support to court users, judiciary, mediators and management.

About us

HMCTS is an agency of the Ministry of Justice responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. National Services manage centralised administrative and contact functions in HMCTS. Your role

This role sits within the First-tier Tribunal for the General Regulatory Chamber (GRC), which is one of seven chambers of the First-tier Tribunal which settles legal disputes and is structured around particular areas of law. GRC handles appeals against decisions made by multiple government regulatory bodies. Within GRC, this role will see you working as part of a team you will be responsible for the processing of appeals to be listed before a Tribunal Panel. This includes appeal registration and fees, handling of supporting documents, assisting parties by handling queries via email and occasionally via telephone, referring appeals to Judicial Office Holders where appropriate, listing of appeals before a panel.

Strong customer service skills with the confidence to support our customers via the telephone, webchat and email
Experience of working in an administrative role in a customer focussed environment is desirable
Proficient with IT and Microsoft Software packages
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Exceptional attention to detail

Further details

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday). HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJs Flexible Working policy.

These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public. Non-contractual hybrid working may be available within our telephony teams. Hybrid working arrangements will be determined by the business and will only be available when it has been established that delivering the service from home can be done effectively. We cannot facilitate requests for a particular work from home/working in the office schedule.

Occasional travel to other courts

For this post, travel to other National Services sites may be required.

This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas in accordance with the current immigration rules.
