This Trainee Estimator position offers an excellent opportunity to develop a rewarding career within the roofing and cladding industry. Working as part of our Estimating and Commercial Team, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in estimating, quantity take-offs, tender preparation, and project costing, supported by experienced industry professionals within a friendly, collaborative, and modern working environment.
The Role
Working alongside our experienced senior estimators and commercial team, you will assist with the preparation, compiling and production of competitive tenders for various types of roofing and cladding projects.
Key Responsibilities include all but not limited to the following
· Reviewing initial tender architect and structural steelwork drawings alongside all specification and any other project specific tender information.
· Ability to analyse and understand these drawings in full with a view to then taking them forward to prepare accurate bill of quantities and cost plan for the project.
· Ability to recognise, identify and query missing, inconsistent or contradictory information contained within the tender documents.
· Ability to engage in constructive dialogue with main contractors / clients / professional design team to secure all necessary information required to enable tender production process to be completed.
· Carrying out highly accurate and detailed material take-offs and quantities from these drawings and presenting them in a clear and concise manner.
· Obtaining and evaluating supplier and sub-contractor quotations and prices ensuring that these are accurate and what has been asked for.
· Composing accurate Excel Bills of Quantities for each project detailing exact and accurate material quantities and material specifications.
· Assisting with cost planning, cost analysis, and value engineering exercises to support the delivery of competitive and commercially viable tender submissions
· Developing a thorough understanding of the roofing and wall cladding systems used throughout our projects, including composite roof and wall cladding panels, standing seam roofing systems, single-ply membrane roofing systems, and rainscreen and façade systems.
· Developing an understanding of current Scottish Building Regulations, with particular focus on thermal performance requirements (U-values) and fire safety classifications and ratings.
· Preparing final tender submissions for review and approval by the Senior Estimating and Commercial Team prior to submission to clients and main contractors.
· Maintaining effective communication with clients and contractors following tender submission, ensuring that any clarifications, additional information requests, or changes to original scope are addressed promptly and professionally.

· A positive attitude and willingness to learn
Desirable
· Currently in possession of or working towards a qualification in a construction or engineering field (HNC/HND/Degree)
· A genuine interest in construction
· Knowledge of roofing, cladding and building envelope systems.
· Previous office, administration or construction experience
