The Role
This role is ideally suited to a law graduate seeking practical, real-world legal experience in a fast-paced professional environment. As a Trainee Paralegal, you will be given early responsibility for managing aspects of live cases, supported by experienced colleagues.
You will be expected to organise your own workload, track case progress effectively, and communicate confidently with clients and external parties. This role offers significant scope to learn “on the job” and develop strong legal, organisational, and professional skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Case & Project Management: Assist in managing a varied caseload, taking responsibility for tracking deadlines, progressing matters, and maintaining accurate case records
- Client Communication: Act as a point of contact for clients, providing updates and responding to enquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Legal Documentation: Assist in drafting and preparing legal documents, including letters of demand and court-related paperwork
- Liaison: Communicate regularly with solicitors, clerks, sheriffs, enforcement agents, and other professionals to progress cases efficiently
- Court & Enforcement Support: Support litigation and enforcement processes by ensuring documentation is prepared, lodged, and followed up appropriately
- Prioritisation: Manage competing priorities and adjust workloads as cases progress
- Independent Working: Take ownership of assigned tasks while working collaboratively within a small team
- Charitable Engagement: Support the School Mock Court Project, promoting legal education and engagement with the profession
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- A Law degree or equivalent legal qualification
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage tasks independently and see work through to completion
- Confidence communicating with clients and legal professionals
- High attention to detail and a conscientious approach to work
- A proactive mindset and willingness to take responsibility
Desirable (but not essential):
- Interest in debt recovery, litigation, or enforcement
- Interest in legal education or outreach initiatives
Role Details
- Location: Office-based (Edinburgh)
- Salary: £25,500 per annum
- Hours: 36.25 hours per week (full-time)
- Contract: Fixed-term contract – 2 years
