We’re looking for a full-time reliable, hard-working General Yard Operative to join our team and support the smooth day-to-day running of our yard and production areas. This is a hands-on role within a natural stone business in the Yorkshire Dales, ideal for someone practical and dependable who takes pride in safe working, keeping things organised and supporting the production of traditional stone materials.
Key responsibilities
- Work within the walling line production unit, supporting the safe and efficient day-to-day running of this area.
- Dress walling stone to the required standard for production and dispatch.
- Build pallets of stone materials safely and efficiently.
- Package and label pallets ready for dispatch.
- Drive a forklift truck to move stone, pallets, materials and equipment as required (training will be provided).
- Load and unload deliveries safely and efficiently.
- Prepare orders, materials and finished products for collection, dispatch or internal movement.
- Keep the yard, storage areas and access routes clean, tidy and well organised.
- Carry out general housekeeping and support safe stock storage and material handling.
- Support production, operations and delivery teams with practical tasks as needed.
- Follow site health and safety procedures at all times and report any hazards, defects or issues promptly.
What we’re looking for
Essential
- A practical, dependable and hard-working approach.
- Ability to work safely in an outdoor and workshop environment.
- Good awareness of yard housekeeping, organisation and manual handling.
- Confidence carrying out physical, hands-on work, including building pallets and preparing materials for dispatch.
- Ability to work well as part of a team, follow instructions and support production tasks within the walling line unit.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a yard, quarry, warehouse, manufacturing or construction environment.
- Experience working in a production line or walling line environment.
- Forklift experience and a valid forklift licence or certification (although training can be provided).
