About the Role
We’re looking for a detail-driven and proactive Customs Clerk to support the seamless movement of time-critical freight from European gateways into the UK and onward to Ireland.
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of international logistics—ensuring import and export processes run smoothly, compliantly, and without delay. This is a fast-paced, high-responsibility position where accuracy and speed are essential, and where your work directly impacts customer satisfaction and operational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Process export documentation within tight timeframes (target: within 30 minutes of receipt)
- Prepare transportation documents and manifests for nightly operations
- Ensure all export clearances and manifests are accurate to avoid delays in Irish import clearance
- Liaise with customs authorities and customers to resolve queries efficiently
- Complete safety and security declarations in line with regulations
- Support the creation of Air Waybills (AWBs) and flight manifests
- Maintain accurate reporting for transactional charging (import, export, screening, handling)
- Contribute to continuous improvement of customs processes and operational performance
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in import/export and customs compliance
- Exposure to both air and road freight operations
- Strong understanding of import/export laws and regulations
- Experience working with HMRC and Border Force systems (including CHIEF and CDS)
- Relevant qualification in Customs, Import/Export, or International Trade (preferred)
Skills & Competencies
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Confident communication skills (written and verbal)
- Proficiency in IT systems, particularly Excel
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work under pressure
- Commercial awareness of the impact of delays in freight movement
Working Hours
This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, across 5 days, in 8-hour shifts.
Shifts are based on a 2-weekly rota covering a 24-hour operation (6:00am Monday to 6:00am Saturday). Flexibility is essential.
