We’re looking for someone with a gift for creating inclusive experiences and developing strong partnerships to join us as Senior Visitor Experience Officer at Birmingham Back to Backs. You will develop a range of memorable experiences for our target audiences, your work will help us to care for this special place in our portfolio and share it with everyone.
The Back to Backs is open 6-days a week which means that weekend, evening and bank holiday working is an important part of this role. We are a new portfolio of properties covering Birmingham, Wolverhampton and the Black Country and you will be working with colleagues and at places across the portfolio.

What it's like to work here:The Back to Backs, the top visitor attraction in Birmingham, is a busy and thriving court of houses that give visitors a glimpse into the into the lives of the ordinary people who helped make Birmingham an extraordinary city. Through guided tours, we share the stories of some of the former residents who crammed into these small houses to live and work, from the 1840s through to the 1970s.

You’ll be part of a team that is passionate about connecting people to heritage and nature, engaging with our communities to create experiences that are meaningful and inclusive – both on and off property.
Although the role is primarily based at the Back to Backs, you will be required to be at other properties on a regular basis, with occasional work off site.
What you'll be doing:This is an incredibly varied role, with no two days being the same.
Reporting to the Property Experience Curator, you will be working closely with staff and volunteers across visitor welcome, community engagement and house and collections, as well as your immediate peers in the cross-portfolio Visitor Experience team. You will be making things happen by creating a dynamic and engaging programme for people of all ages. You'll be encouraged to think ambitiously about how we meet our strategic focus to end unequal access.
On property, you will devise and run events and activities and lead on the working with partners to programme two floors of exhibition spaces at the Back to Backs. You will be open to ideas and be curious about how we can engage with visitors, partners and stakeholders to achieve our ambitious plans – and reach our target audiences.
Day to day you will be part of the operations team , you'll be focused on achieving the highest standards of presentation and service, helping everything to run smoothly during projects, events, active conservation work, busy school holidays and throughout the year.
Sometimes you may need to get stuck in and help wherever you’re needed. You may also be managing and supervising others, including volunteers .

You’ll be responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders and partners, planning, monitoring and reporting on financial performance, both expenditure and working to income targets.
You'll regularly act as duty manager for the whole site, working regular weekends (roughly 1 in 6) and Bank Holidays on a scheduled basis. As Duty Manager, you'll be the main point of contact for staff, volunteers and visitors in case of emergency, enquiries or complaints.
