About us
We are Starglaze – a window and door company in Lincoln that genuinely doesn't think it's like every other window company. We're proud holders of the Investors in People Platinum award, which is the highest level there is, and it reflects how seriously we take looking after and developing our people.
Our purpose is simple: build lasting relationships through trusted quality, exceptional service and genuine care – looking after our people and our customers so tomorrow's better than today.
We're a real team. Nobody here works in a silo, and nobody's expected to know everything on day one. We'd rather you try things, ask questions and learn as you go than play it safe and stay quiet. As we like to say, a person who never made a mistake never tried anything new – what matters is that we learn from things, adapt and keep improving.
What you'll actually be doing
The thread running through everything is the same: be visible, stay organised, keep work flowing, support your people, and make sure production is delivered safely, accurately and to the right standard. The role will grow as you progress through the Team Leader roadmap, but the core responsibilities include:
Day to day leadership
- Control and direct the team on a day-to-day basis, making sure people know what is expected and work is kept moving through the area.
- Progress chase work through production, removing blockers where possible and escalating issues around manning, materials, machinery, quality or process concerns.
- Work with Supervisors, Production Managers and other Team Leaders to agree priorities, set targets and keep the shift focused on the right work.
- Liaise with the team throughout the shift to monitor progress, deal with questions, and make sure targets are understood and achieved.
- Stand in on the shop floor when required, supporting the area directly and keeping standards consistent when other leaders are absent or away from their workstation.
- Lead by example in all aspects of behaviour, performance, timekeeping and attendance, consistently demonstrating the standards expected of a Team Leader.
- Make sure scanning equipment is used correctly and accurately so work is traceable and production information is reliable.
- Give clear daily feedback to Supervisors and Production Managers on issues, achievements, risks and anything that needs support or escalation.
Standards, quality and safety
- Contribute to quality improvements day to day and get involved in improvement processes such as UPAS and Toolbox Talk meetings and Team Briefs.
- Encourage near-miss reporting, look for safer ways of working, and help make improvements in relation to health and safety.
- Ensure start-up sheets, extra care checks, asset care, PPE checks and relevant production paperwork are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensure BSI test requirements are completed where they apply to the area and escalate any gaps or concerns.
- Monitor standards on the shop floor, including quality, housekeeping, safe working, machine/task times and team performance.
- Support training in the area, making sure operators are trained competently and the relevant paperwork is completed.
- Make sure operators are at their bench or workstation on time at the start of shift and after breaks, escalating concerns where needed.
Every month
- Pull together monthly health and safety information, including accidents, near misses, outstanding actions, training updates and key trends.
- Support the monthly review of risk assessments, safety performance, audit findings and improvement plans.
Progression and wider leadership
- Run the designated production area unassisted as capability develops, with support and guidance from the Supervisor or Production Manager.
- Carry out team briefings, toolbox talks and newsletter updates, feeding back any questions or concerns raised by the team.
- Take part in planning with the management team, looking ahead to highlight manning, material, machinery and process issues before they affect output.
- Attend or support return-to-work interviews, PSIs, appraisals, accident investigations and disciplinary investigations as appropriate to your level and training.
- Deputise for more senior Team Leaders or the Supervisor when required, including contributing positively to management meetings where appropriate.
- Undertake personal development and work towards progression through the Team Leader roadmap, including relevant IT, leadership and safety training.
You’ll have real responsibility from the start, with support from the Production Managers, Supervisors and wider leadership team. As you grow in the role, you’ll be expected to take on more ownership, support planning, develop people, improve processes and help create a production team that is safe, capable, positive and consistently improving.
What we're looking for
Above all, someone who is practical, visible and credible – the kind of person who can organise people, keep calm under pressure, communicate clearly, follow things through and set the right example on the shop floor.
You'll likely tick most of these:
- Experience in a busy production, manufacturing or similar hands-on environment, with a good understanding of how work moves through a production area.
- A natural leader who can control and direct a team, keep people focused and deal with day-to-day issues fairly and consistently.
- Organised and reliable – able to manage targets, paperwork, checks, follow-ups and priorities without letting things drift.
- Confident communicating with people at every level, from shop-floor conversations and team briefings to updates with Supervisors and Production Managers.
- A chaser, not a waiter – happy to follow up work, escalate issues early and keep production moving.
- Practical and hands-on – comfortable being visible in the area, helping where needed and understanding what is happening on the floor.
- A positive, can-do attitude – you’d rather help people find a safer, better way than simply say “no”.
A recognised Team Leader qualification, or relevant leadership training in a production or manufacturing environment, would be a strong advantage. What matters most is that you are credible, organised, willing to learn, and able to bring people with you.
In return, you’ll be backed by a leadership team who’ll support you, listen to your ideas and give you room to improve how we work safely.
What you'll get
- A friendly, busy team that genuinely looks out for each other.
- A proper focus on development, recognition and wellbeing – including our Employee Assistance Programme, Wellbeing Champions and a buddy to help you settle in.
- Reward and recognition that actually happens – Employee of the Week/Month, long-service awards, birthday vouchers, Perkbox and regular "thank you" treats and events.
- A workplace that takes its people seriously (that Investors in People Platinum award isn't just for show).
