What you need to know about the role
We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to support and enhance production-critical systems across Ironmaking, Steelmaking, and the Rolling Mills.
This role combines hands-on development, system integration, and operational support within a complex OT environment spanning both modern platforms and legacy systems. You will play a key role in improving system reliability, data integrity, and the ongoing modernisation of process control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support applications using C#, Python, PHP, and SQL across multiple plant areas
- Design, maintain, and optimise databases, interfaces, and data pipelines
- Troubleshoot issues across real-time and near-real-time system integrations
- Support and enhance operational reporting and dashboards (e.g. Grafana / Power BI)
- Work on legacy systems (Fortran, VAX/VMS, Alpha) and contribute to migration/modernisation
- Support virtualisation/emulation of legacy systems and integration with modern platforms
- Ensure data accuracy, availability, and reliability across process control systems
- Collaborate with operations, process engineers, and IT teams to resolve production issues
- Follow and contribute to change control, version control (Git), and deployment practices
- Identify and deliver improvements in system performance, resilience, and maintainability
What we need to know about you
Essential
- Strong experience with C#, Python, PHP, or SQL.
- Solid grasp of relational databases and data modelling.
- Hands‑on work with integrated systems and data flows.
- Proven troubleshooting in complex production environments.
- Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and Git.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability.
Desirable
- Experience in industrial or manufacturing systems.
- Exposure to data visualisation tools like Grafana or Power BI.
- Knowledge of APIs and integration patterns.
- Familiarity with Linux/Windows servers.
- Background in legacy system support.
- Interest in analytics and automation.
