Are you ready to play a hands-on role in delivering exhibitions that inspire curiosity, spark wonder, and reach audiences across the UK and beyond?
About us
At Science Museum Group, we aim to inspire futures by creating informal learning environments which grow the ‘science-capital’ of our diverse audiences. One of the ways in which we do this is through our exhibitions within the Public Programme across SMG.
Committed to this strategic priority the Exhibition Services team will support colleagues across the organisation to successfully deliver exhibitions and projects, both within SMG and with our external partners nationally and internationally.
About the role
As Project Delivery Coordinator, you'll bring projects and small exhibitions to life across Science Museum Group sites, turning concepts into physical displays our visitors can experience. Working alongside site Exhibition Project Managers, you'll take ownership of procurement and production work packages for your assigned projects, helping to keep budgets and programmes on track from initial planning through to delivery - including roll-out across multiple sites where needed.
You'll coordinate the logistics of moving exhibitions between Science Museum Group venues, safeguarding both the design integrity and the care of our collections throughout their scheduled tours. There'll also be opportunities to support the Project Delivery Manager on our larger, more complex exhibitions, broadening your experience as you go.
This role is a 6-month fixed term contract, advertised for 35 hours per week working Monday to Friday and you will be based at the Science Museum in London. You will be required to work a minimum of two days a week on site. During busier project phases, we'd expect you to be in more often as delivery demands require.
About you
We're looking for someone who thrives on bringing projects to life – an organiser with a sharp eye for detail and experience coordinating projects from initial idea through to delivery, often within tight timescales. In this role you'll oversee smaller projects such as gallery refreshes and maintenance work, pick up a couple of standalone projects of your own and provide vital support to the wider team on bigger exhibitions - so you'll need to be comfortable switching gears between leading and supporting.
Day to day, you'll be closely involved with budgeting, contractor management, procurement and general project administration, which means good organisational skills, comfort managing competing priorities and clear written and verbal communication (including minuting meetings) are all essential. Just as importantly, you'll know how to build effective working relationships with colleagues across the organisation and external partners alike, and you'll bring a professional, problem-solving mindset when plans need to shift.
You'll feel at home working with minimal supervision - whether that's remotely, on site, or in an unfamiliar venue - and you'll be happy travelling between our sites when projects call for it. A practical understanding of health and safety, basic confidence with MS Word and Excel, and the ability to take on varied research and sourcing tasks will all set you up well.
Experience in exhibitions or the wider cultural sector would be a real bonus, as would familiarity with procurement processes, CDM regulations, RIBA design stages, or the ability to read design drawings - but if you don't tick every box, we'd still love to hear from you. Above all, we're keen to hear from people who share our values and want to help us build an open, inclusive organisation that inspires futures for everyone.
Don’t feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn’t match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
