We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Animation (CGI) to join our outstanding team of educators, practitioners and researchers.
The Farnham School of Creative and Cultural Industries is a vibrant community of students, academic teaching staff, researchers and industry specialists, working together to create innovative animation, film and creative technologies practice and research. Central to the School's ethos is the combination of high-quality teaching, leading research and vibrant knowledge exchange with industry partners. The School has a long-established international reputation for excellence in animation, producing graduates who have gone on to successful careers across film, television, games, independent practice and the wider creative industries. Alongside industry-standard studios and digital production facilities, students benefit from specialist workshops and a vibrant interdisciplinary creative environment. The role will be based at the Farnham campus, just outside Guildford, and will report directly to the Programme Director for Animation.
UCA is seeking to recruit a dynamic and innovative educator with specialist expertise in CGI animation. We are looking for a candidate who will ideally have professional experience within the animation industry together with experience of teaching in higher education, including curriculum delivery aligned with contemporary creative practice.
As Lecturer in Animation (CGI), you will have proven knowledge and experience of contemporary 3D animation workflows, with particular expertise in Autodesk Maya and/or Blender. You will be confident teaching modelling, rigging, character animation, lighting, rendering and scene construction, while supporting students in developing an understanding of professional production pipelines and collaborative studio practice. Experience of Unreal Engine, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, Houdini, motion capture, virtual production or other specialist CGI technologies would be advantageous.
You will play a key role in delivering CGI animation skills to students across undergraduate provision, supporting learners from Foundation through to Level 6. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire the next generation of animators through your creativity, technical expertise and professional practice, helping students to develop visual storytelling, technical confidence and distinctive creative voices.
You will have a good honours degree, ideally supported by a postgraduate qualification, together with significant professional experience and an up-to-date understanding of contemporary developments in CGI animation and the wider creative industries.
At UCA, creativity and innovation are at the heart of what we do. Our legacy of educating eager and passionate artists, makers and thinkers spans almost 160 years, and today we're helping shape a global future that supports and nurtures creative talent worldwide.
You will be able to demonstrate excellent team-working, organisational and communication skills. Teaching responsibilities will include all associated course administration, assessment and student support, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute proactively to curriculum enhancement and innovative approaches to learning and teaching. You will also participate in marketing and student recruitment activities, collaborate with technical staff and colleagues across the School, and have the opportunity to engage in professional practice, research and knowledge exchange.
Animation at UCA Farnham is built around making. We encourage students to experiment, question convention and develop their own creative identities while gaining the professional skills and adaptability to thrive across artistic, commercial and emerging contexts. We are looking for someone who understands that technical excellence is most powerful when developed in service of ideas, storytelling and creative exploration.
Are you ready to inspire the next generation of CGI animators? If so, we would love to hear from you.
