MCL Consulting is a well-established, multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy based in Belfast and working across the UK and ROI, being predominantly based within Northern Ireland. We provide high quality, client focused consultancy to a broad range of clients and have an experienced and established team of 25 scientists, planners and engineers, based from our offices in Duncrue Street, Belfast.
We have a vacancy for the role of Graduate Ecologist to join our established and growing MCL Ecology department. Whether you have an existing specialism or special interest or are a keen generalist, this role will enable you to develop your skills and learn from the wider team. This is a Full-Time permanent post, subject to a 3-month probation period. The successful applicant will work primarily within the ecology team and gain experience in the full scope of ecological consultancy including:
· Assisting the team with survey planning and logistics
· Assisting with and undertaking surveys and reports such preliminary ecological appraisals, Biodiversity Checklist, HRA Screening and EcoW roles.
· Assisting with species specific surveys such as assessments for bats, badger, otter, breeding birds, newt etc as well as specialist botanical and habitat surveys.
· Additional opportunities to gain experience in invasive species survey and treatment
The role will be split between office-based and field-based activities, working mainly throughout Northern Ireland with some work also in Republic of Ireland. Key Selection Criteria:
· Full driving Licence.
· Educated to at least BSc Level in a relevant ecological discipline.
- A passion for ecology, demonstrated through relevant volunteering and/or ecological surveying is an advantage.
· Must be keen to work outdoors and have some experience of ecological surveying.
· Must be able to demonstrate good customer service / management skills and teamwork abilities.
- Proficient in using a computer (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Internal on-the-job training in will be provided to the successful applicant. Starting salary £25.5 k / annum gross, excellent benefits package including Bupa Health Insurance and Company Pension.
