Job Overview
The Shift Manager will lead, manage, direct, and control all aspects of the assigned shift operations. They will be responsible for ensuring efficient shift performance and that all targets are met within specified time and cost requirements. The Shift Manager must ensure that all production methods comply fully with all Radius standards; and help to improve the efficiencies of the Production Department and associated support functions wherever possible.
Key objectives include:
· To ensure that all Shift operations and activities meet the standards and requirements for health, safety and welfare; and protection of the environment, through frequent on-shift audits and reporting.
· To manage, coach and mentor reporting supervisors and operatives to implement and achieve the Company's established production policies and goals, in line with the defined KPI’s, including scrap reduction, overweight reduction and production efficiencies.
· To control all aspects of the designated shift within the Company, including the review of staff to ensure that they are appropriately managed, trained and motivated; and that they can carry out their responsibilities to the required standards.
· Ensure all operating processes are managed in a safe and efficient manner.
· Ensure that the optimum use is made of shift resources, waste is minimised as per budget and that Production costs are controlled to meet target output costs.
· Enforce Company sickness absence policy and procedures consistently to manage absenteeism, including monitoring and addressing attendance issues promptly by collaborating with HR.
· The auditing, monitoring and reporting of the manufacturing processes and output to ensure that production meets the established standards, in terms of safety, quality and efficiency; and to advise in good time on any adjustments that may be required to the planned schedules.
· To identify training needs and development opportunities for all Shift personnel and to work to provide appropriate solutions.
· Communicate effectively with all employees on each shift and maintain regular contact and liaison with other in-Company Department Managers to ensure that they are aware of shift requirements and to identify any potential problems sufficiently in advance.
· Lead improvement projects, and roll-out associated activities across the effected teams and departments to ensure sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow up any safety, quality, or people management investigations or non-conform notifications to conclusion while using the appropriate management approach from coaching through to performance improvement plans or disciplinary if necessary.
- Be empowered to make the decision to stop production / run in conjunction with the support teams and Shift Supervisor.
- Conduct counter verification of the one-pack following a tool change to confirm the correct process was followed, any anomalies have been dealt with, and process scrap is within limits allocated.
- Collate the log sheets, check that the information is consistent with the data entries in APS and counter sign as confirmation.
- Complete the end of shift report handing over to the incoming Shift Manager and making them aware of any current or potential issues.
- Complete RTW on the shift of returning following an absence, complete all probationary reviews and formal appraisals by their deadlines.
- Complete or delegate the shift feedback reports to be communicated to the wider group of interested parties.
Key Requirements
- Previous production management knowledge, ideally in a Plastic-Extrusion environment.
- Previous Shift experience, ideally continental shifts (Both days/ nights) – including weekends.
- Results orientated in areas of Safety and Quality.
- Ability to challenge and lead by example.
- A proven track record as a successful manager leading substantial manufacturing activities within a fast-moving, high quality and deadline-orientated environment.
- Preferably hold a technical or engineering qualification.
- Advanced numeracy and literacy skills supplemented by strong IT capability, including Microsoft Office package.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels, from Shop floor to Senior Management.
- Good organisational and coordinating skills.
Pay: £50,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
