Full job description

The Targeted Mentor plays a vital role in empowering children and young people to recognise their strengths, build resilience, and achieve positive, lasting change. Working within a trauma-informed framework, the role focuses on supporting young people who may be navigating challenges such as emotional wellbeing, engagement in education, family circumstances, or exposure to risk, including criminality or exploitation.

Through consistent, trusted relationships, the post holder delivers highly personalised 1:1 mentoring and structured interventions that build on each young person’s existing strengths, interests, and aspirations. The focus is on enabling young people to develop confidence, make informed and positive choices, strengthen their support networks, and progress towards meaningful outcomes that enhance their wellbeing and future opportunities.

The purpose of this role is to deliver meaningful, relationship-based through Positive Futures Mentoring House Model that supports children and young people to recognise their strengths, build confidence, and create positive pathways for their future. You will play a key part in helping young people feel safe, heard, and empowered, supporting them to navigate challenges, strengthen their wellbeing, and achieve sustainable, positive outcomes.

As part of Positive Futures’ Targeted Support Service, you will contribute by:

Building strong, trusting relationships with young people through personalised mentoring
Supporting a safe, nurturing environment where young people can grow and thrive
Work in partnership with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals to provide joined-up, holistic support
Maintaining high-quality, reflective casework that evidence progress, outcomes, and impact

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

· Build meaningful, trusting relationships with young people through regular 1:1 mentoring that is tailored to their strengths, interests, and aspirations

· Create a safe, supportive space where young people feel listened to, valued, and encouraged to be themselves

· Empower young people to grow in confidence, resilience, and emotional wellbeing, celebrating progress and small wins along the way

· Deliver engaging, purposeful interventions that support young people to make positive choices and stay connected to education, relationships, and opportunities

· Be a consistent, positive presence in young people’s lives, offering encouragement, stability, and belief in their potential

· Work positively alongside parents and carers, recognising their important role and building supportive relationships that strengthen the young person’s wider network

· Work in partnership with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals including Local Authority statutory youth and children’s agencies and voluntary services, to provide joined-up, holistic support that enables young people to thrive

This role involves a hybrid approach, combining office-based and community-based working across Liverpool, Knowsley, and Sefton.

You will deliver support within the communities we serve, working in a flexible and responsive way to meet young people where they feel most comfortable and empowered. This may include homes, schools, local community spaces, and Positive Futures hubs, building on the strengths and opportunities within each local area.

The role offers the opportunity to connect with a wide network of families, partners, and community resources, enabling you to work in a place-based way that supports young people to feel safe, valued, and part of their community
