The difference you will make as a Financial Controls Manager
Working with key finance stakeholders in the management and development of the financial control environment across TRGL. Support in the preparation, review and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure they provide a clear financial control framework. Responsibility for identifying financial risks and assessing the adequacy of controls, together with the preparation, implementation and monitoring of appropriate action plans.
About you:
We are looking for someone with:
- A recognised accountancy qualification, ideally FCA or ACA.
- Previous experience of working in audit or risk.
- Strong technical accounting skills.
- Sound working knowledge of financial controls.
Experience of using Financial Accounting systems.
- Advanced user of MS Excel.

Role Profile
- Support the Head of Financial Accounting and Finance Director to ensure that all departmental processes are fully defined, properly documented and compliant with the relevant accounting standards to ensure good financial control.
- Review of routine finance processes and controls to ensure they are appropriate and where necessary ensure risks are highlighted and the relevant action plans implemented with process owners.
- Undertake regular controls testing across finance to ensure compliance and financial robustness. Reporting findings and make recommendations to senior finance team. Ensure the implementation of recommendations where agreed.
- Working with both finance and non-finance colleagues to ensure that appropriate financial controls are applied to all key systems, processes and ways of working across the whole of TRGL.
- Work with other members of the finance team to develop appropriate finance systems enhancements to improve the integrity of internal controls operating within the finance function.
- Undertake deep dive analysis and audit review of controls and processes across a variety of financial outputs from P2P, revenue and regulatory reporting and formally identify an effective internal controls framework across the business.
- Work with stakeholders to understand the current control measures in place, assess adequacy and embed more effective processes across the business to improve efficiency, data quality and financial integrity.
- Work closely with the Finance Processing Manager and Financial Accounting Manager to ensure month end processes and procedures, such as balance sheet reconciliations and month end journals are processed in a timely and effective manner.
- Undertake routine journal testing to ensure accuracy and adherence to controls standards.
- Make recommendations to improve the quality of the control framework within Finance – assessing both design and execution of controls.
- Monitor unresolved issues and status of remediation actions, including internal/external audit observations.
- Raising awareness of the importance of robust financial control adherence within the Finance teams across the Group.
- Support projects and new business activity to ensure the Group’s standard financial processes and controls are adopted and provide upskilling as appropriate.
- Support with both routine and ad-hoc financial reporting to support the business.
- Build effective relationships with both internal and external customers, including Internal Audit & Risk and the external auditors.
- Ensure that all data protection requirements are met in accordance with the Group’s policy, procedures and statutory requirements.
- Ensure that health and safety requirements are met in accordance with the Group’s policy, procedures and statutory requirements.

Person specification
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- A recognised accountancy qualification, ideally FCA or ACA.
- Previous experience of working in audit or risk.
- Strong technical accounting skills.
- Sound working knowledge of financial controls.
Experience of using Financial Accounting systems.
- Advanced user of MS Excel.
- Customer focussed with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work at all levels within the business.
- Results driven with strong analytical skills and experience of providing meaningful management information.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure, deliver to strict deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.
- Evidence of effective stakeholder management, both internally and external to the organization.
Desirable
- Degree level or equivalent in a related discipline.
- ‘Big 4’ trained.
- Experience of six sigma, lean and or other process improvement methodologies.
- Previous experience within the sector.
