We are an outstanding, non-profit, non-maintained special school. We educate and care for pupils with special, visual, sensory, and complex needs aged 2-19. We also offer an after-school club, parental support, and intervention support for our pupils. We have a strong multi-disciplinary team including occupational therapy, habilitation, physio, nursing, speech and language, music therapy and other specialists. All of our staff are highly trained including qualified teachers of the visually impaired, MSI teachers, habilitation and other specialisms. Our facilities, adapted environment and grounds are carefully adapted to meet the needs of our pupils and young adults. All this ensures a focus on independence, with a team around the child approach.
2x 1:1 Teaching Assistant Positions (2:1)
Contract type: 37hr fixed term time
Salary: NJC 3-4
We are recruiting two 1:1 teaching assistants to work as a team of two, to support and care for the following pupil:
Working under the direction of the class teacher you will support a KS4 pupil in their academic learning, accessing the multi-sensory curriculum, as well as in developing their personal, social, communicative and independent living skills. This will be both in and outside of the school site, including independent travel training alongside the habilitation officer. You will be expected to carry out physical tasks such as dressing and supporting with some personal care needs. It is essential to have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with behaviours that challenge. Regular swimming sessions are also expected, this may be more than once per week. You will be provided with suitable training to support the individual with their personalised timetable and their targets/outcomes, this will be identified during the interview process. Training will include TeamTeach, sensory strategies and emotional regulation, to be provided prior to starting to work with the pupil directly.
You should be qualified to at least NVQ level 3 in a relevant field. Ideally, you will have had experience of working with children with VI, sensory processing, complex and medical needs.
