Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Acro Teacher to join our vibrant performing arts academy on a maternity cover basis.
The successful candidate will deliver fun, engaging, and high-quality acro classes for children and young people aged 3–16 years, teaching a range of abilities from complete beginners through to advanced students. Our acro programme follows the Acrobatic Arts syllabus, so experience with this programme is preferred.
You will play a key role in developing students' acrobatic skills, strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence, while creating a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment where every child can thrive.
This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a supportive and passionate team, working with dedicated students who love being part of our academy.
The successful candidate should ideally be available to teach on Wednesday afternoons and evenings during the after-school period. There is also the opportunity for additional hours through teaching Saturday morning acro classes.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, safe, and inclusive acro classes for children aged 3–16, following the Acrobatic Arts syllabus.
- Manage behaviour effectively using positive reinforcement and age-appropriate behaviour management strategies.
- Support each child's emotional, social, and physical development through personalised encouragement and guidance.
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers, providing regular feedback on students' progress and communicating professionally at drop-off and pick-up times.
- Supervise children appropriately, including accompanying younger students to the toilet where required, while adhering to safeguarding policies and ensuring their safety at all times.
- Set up and pack away acro equipment before and after lessons, ensuring all equipment is safe, clean, and ready for use.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, and nurturing learning environment where every child feels supported and encouraged to achieve their potential.
- Work collaboratively with the academy team to provide the highest standard of teaching and care.
- Prepare students (including choreograph) for events, performances/productions and other projects.
- Ensure all safeguarding, health and safety, and academy policies are followed at all times.
Essential Requirements
- Experience teaching acrobatics to children and young people.
- A recognised teaching/coaching qualification in acrobatics, dance or gymnastics - ideally the Acrobatic Arts syllabus (or willingness to work within it) if you are trained to teach a different syllabus for example, IDTA Acro.
- Proven ability to work effectively with children and young people of different ages and backgrounds from pre-schoolers to high schoolers - demonstrating patience, creativity, and a nurturing approach appropriate to the age range and child's needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents/carers, and colleagues.
- A positive, pro-active, energetic, and enthusiastic teaching style.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- A current Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Additional Hours Available
There is also the opportunity to take on additional maternity cover hours teaching Drama & Acting and Ballet, ideally on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
If you are qualified or experienced in teaching any of these disciplines, or any other dance or performing arts styles that would complement our programme, we would love to hear from you. Please include details of your additional teaching qualifications, experience, and availability as part of your application.
This offers an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to increase their working hours within our academy.
