Salary: £38k + KPI Bonus
Start Date: July 2026
Hours: 42.5 hours (45 hours worked) over 5 days
Location: Artisane Liverpool
About Us:
Artisane Limited is a growing artisan bakery and deli concept, known for freshly made pastries, cakes, and savoury bakes prepared daily on-site. Rooted in craftsmanship and quality, we focus on simple, comforting food—from light sponge cakes to flaky pastries and indulgent sweet treats. With a strong reputation for freshness, consistency, and attention to detail, Artisane is expanding, and we are looking for an exceptional chef and leader to help drive the business forward.
The Role:
This is a senior, dual-focused role at the heart of our Liverpool operation. The majority of your time will be spent in the kitchen, working as Head Chef alongside our Managing Director and founding Head Chef, Walter Bouffard. You will uphold and develop the food standards Artisane is known for, while also taking responsibility for the management and smooth running of the wider team — both back-of-house and front-of-house.
This is not a purely managerial position — hands-on cookery and genuine kitchen craft are essential. At the same time, it is not a role for someone who wants to stay behind the pass. You will be visible across the whole operation, and your leadership will set the tone for the team every day. Our aim is to build this role around the right candidate and to support you in making it your own.
Responsibilities:
- Work as Head Chef on a daily basis, producing Artisane's full range of baked goods, pastries, and savoury items to the standards set by Walter
- Collaborate directly with Walter to maintain, protect, and develop the food offering and recipe library
- Manage and develop the kitchen team through training, mentorship, and day-to-day direction
- Take ownership of food quality, consistency, and presentation across all products
- Lead on food safety, allergen management, and hygiene compliance in line with legal requirements
- Oversee food ordering, supplier relationships, and stock control to minimise waste and maintain margin
- Contribute to menu development and seasonal product innovation in partnership with Walter
- Manage rotas for both kitchen and front-of-house teams, ensuring adequate cover and efficient scheduling
- Oversee the front-of-house team, ensuring a consistently high standard of customer service and a positive guest experience
- Step into service when required, acting as a visible and supportive presence across the whole site
- Take full operational responsibility for the site, including opening and closing procedures
- Work alongside Walter to support the wider business goals of Artisane
- Act as a role model, fostering a positive, motivated, and high-performing team culture
About You:
- Proven experience as a chef in a professional kitchen — this is non-negotiable; food craft is at the core of this role
- A background in bakery, patisserie, artisan food production, or hospitality food service is highly desirable
- Experience managing a small kitchen team, with confidence directing others in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable taking on wider operational responsibility, including FOH team management and rotas
- Organised and solutions-focused, with the ability to balance kitchen output with business admin
- Passionate about quality food and genuinely proud of what comes out of your kitchen
- A collaborative approach — this role is built on partnership, not hierarchy
If you are an experienced chef with a genuine passion for artisan food, an eye for quality, and the confidence to lead a small team, we would love to hear from you. We are committed to working with the right person to shape this role and support them in growing with us.
