We work across some of the most disadvantaged communities in the Liverpool City Region, delivering youth provision, holiday activities, detached youth work, sports programmes, accredited learning and inclusive opportunities for individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Purpose of the Role
Apollo Active is seeking enthusiastic, passionate and motivated Youth Workers to support the delivery of our growing range of community programmes.
The successful candidates will engage children and young people through sports activities, youth clubs, mentoring, detached youth work, holiday provision, youth voice initiatives and accredited learning opportunities.
You will play an important role in supporting young people to develop confidence, resilience, positive relationships and aspirations while helping them access opportunities that improve their future outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Youth Work Delivery
* Deliver engaging youth work activities that promote personal and social development.
* Build positive and professional relationships with children and young people.
* Support young people to develop confidence, resilience and self esteem.
* Encourage positive behaviour and active participation.
* Act as a positive role model within the community.
Sports and Physical Activity
* Support the delivery of sports, physical activity and wellbeing programmes.
* Encourage participation among children and young people of all abilities.
* Promote healthy lifestyles and positive wellbeing.
* Use sport as a tool to engage and support young people.
Mentoring and Personal Development
* Provide informal mentoring and guidance.
* Support young people to identify and achieve personal goals.
* Encourage positive decision making and future aspirations.
* Signpost young people to appropriate services and opportunities when required.
Detached Youth Work and Outreach
* Engage with young people in community settings including parks, estates and public spaces.
* Build relationships with young people who may not access traditional services.
* Support diversionary activities designed to reduce antisocial behaviour and improve community cohesion.
* Promote participation in Apollo Active programmes and activities.
SEND and Inclusion
* Support the inclusion of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
* Adapt activities where required to ensure accessibility and participation.
* Promote equality, diversity and inclusion across all programmes.
Youth Voice and Participation
* Support young people to share their views and influence decisions.
* Encourage participation in youth voice activities and community projects.
* Promote leadership opportunities for young people.
Safeguarding
* Safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults at all times.
* Follow Apollo Active safeguarding policies and procedures.
* Report concerns appropriately and maintain confidentiality.
* Promote a safe and positive environment for all participants.
Monitoring and Administration
* Complete registers and session records accurately.
* Support monitoring, evaluation and impact reporting requirements.
* Contribute to case studies, participant feedback and outcome measurement.
* Maintain professional records in line with organisational policies.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Experience working with children and young people.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to build positive relationships quickly.
* Understanding of safeguarding principles.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Positive, reliable and enthusiastic approach.
* Passion for supporting children and young people to achieve their potential.
* Willingness to work evenings, weekends and school holidays.
Desirable Criteria
* Youth Work qualification.
* Sports coaching qualification.
* Experience delivering youth clubs or community programmes.
* Experience supporting young people with SEND.
* Experience delivering detached youth work.
* First Aid qualification.
* Safeguarding training.
* Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
