Role Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable, motivated and industry-experienced Mechanical Engineering Trainer to join our expanding team.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about developing others and sharing their expertise. You will deliver high-quality training to apprentices, adult learners, and commercial clients, enabling them to develop the technical skills, knowledge, and professional behaviours required for careers in mechanical engineering, including areas such as mechanical maintenance, lean manufacture, pneumatics, hydraulics, abrasive wheels, and health & safety.
You will play a key role in designing and delivering both apprenticeship-based training and bespoke commercial training programmes, working collaboratively with employers to address real-world skills needs and develop the next generation of engineers by equipping them with technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviours aligned with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging, high-quality training programmes across a range of mechanical engineering disciplines, such as maintenance operations, hydraulics, pneumatics, lean practices, abrasive wheels, and health & safety
- Deliver both classroom-based teaching and practical workshop sessions
- Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and training materials aligned with awarding body and industry standards
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback to support learner progress and achievement
- Work closely with employer partners to identify skills gaps and co-create tailored training solutions to meet the needs of industry.
- Contribute to curriculum development to ensure training remains relevant to industry needs
- Maintain accurate learner records and participate in quality assurance processes
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, equality and diversity, and internal quality standards
- Engage in continuous improvement activities and support wider business initiatives, including recruitment events and promotional activities
Essential Requirements
- Strong background in mechanical engineering, ideally within manufacturing or industrial environments
- Time-served apprenticeship in Engineering or Manufacturing
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in Engineering
- Proven, up-to-date industry experience
- Experience delivering training, coaching, or mentoring within an educational or workplace setting
- Teaching qualification (e.g. PTLLS, CertEd, PGCE, or Level 3 Award in Education & Training)
- Assessor qualification (e.g. CAVA, TAQA, A1, D32/D33)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate learners of all abilities
- Passion for developing others and supporting workforce skills growth
Additional Information
- Based at Waterside Training, St Helens, with travel to client sites across the Northwest
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential
- Subject to an enhanced DBS check
