Key Tasks:

Allocate and supervise daily tasks for hygiene operatives
Carry out hygiene inspections and sign-offs prior to production start-up
Ensure the correct use of PPE, chemicals and cleaning equipment
Complete and verify hygiene documentation for traceability and compliance
Communicate effectively with production, engineering and quality teams

KPIs:

Hygiene Compliance: All cleaning and sanitation to be completed to required standards and site to be audit-ready at all times
Food Safety: Collaborate with Technical department to ensure zero hygiene-related food safety incidents or critical non-conformances
Health & Safety: Ensure full compliance with H&S procedures, with any incidents reported and investigated promptly
Operational Support: All hygiene activities to be completed on time to support production schedules
Team Performance: Demonstrate effective supervision, training completion and strong attendance within the hygiene team

Responsibilities:

Hygiene Operations & Standards

Lead and coordinate daily hygiene activities in line with site hygiene schedules, SOPs and food safety standards
Ensure all production areas, equipment and facilities are cleaned and sanitised effectively to meet audit and regulatory requirements
Verify that hygiene tasks are completed to correct standards before production start-up and during changeovers
Ensure the correct use of cleaning chemicals, concentrations and methods in line with COSHH and manufacturer guidelines

Team Leadership & Supervision

Directly manage and support Hygiene Operatives, providing clear instructions and daily task allocation
Monitor team performance, attendance and timekeeping, addressing issues promptly and professionally
Train, coach and mentor hygiene staff to ensure competency and adherence to hygiene and safety standards
Promote a positive team culture, focused on accountability, quality and continuous improvement

Health, Safety & Food Safety Compliance

Ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations, food safety standards and site hygiene rules
Act as a role model for safe working practices and personal hygiene standards
Carry out hygiene and safety checks, escalating non-conformances and risks appropriately
Support internal and external audits (e.g., BRC, customer, environmental health, etc.), ensuring site hygiene readiness at all times

Quality Control & Documentation

Complete and review hygiene records, cleaning schedules, chemical usage logs and verification checks accurately and on time
Report and escalate hygiene, quality or equipment issues that could impact food safety or production
Work closely with the quality and technical teams to resolve hygiene-related non-conformances and implement corrective actions

Equipment, Maintenance & Housekeeping

Ensure hygiene equipment is cleaned, stored and maintained correctly
Identify equipment faults or maintenance issues and liaise with engineering where required
Maintain high standards of housekeeping within hygiene areas and cleaning stores

Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve hygiene processes, efficiency and standards
Support trials of new cleaning methods, chemicals or equipment where appropriate
Contribute to site food safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives

Role required to replace previous Hygiene Team Leader

Monday to Friday

7am - 4pm

Daily paid hours: 8.5 hours
Weekly paid hours (Monday–Friday): 42.5 hours
