About Us
Lewis Pies is a 90-year-old family-run business producing and distributing high-quality pies and pastries across Wales and the UK. Our success comes from our people: a dedicated team who ensure every product reaches our customers safely, on time, and in perfect condition.
As a Casual Relief Driver, you will support our established delivery team by covering a variety of routes across our customer base as and when required. You will be contacted on an ad hoc basis and may be offered work at short notice depending on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cover a variety of delivery routes across our customer base
- Load, transport, and deliver frozen and fresh goods to customers using handheld devices and accurate recordkeeping.
- Provide excellent customer service at every delivery point, maintaining a professional and friendly manner.
- Handle customer payments accurately and securely (cash, card, and cheque transactions).
- Adhere to driving safety, food hygiene, and company procedures at all times.
- Carry out vehicle checks, report defects, and maintain vehicle cleanliness prior to use.
- Respond flexibly to short-notice cover requirements (weekdays only, no evenings).
Requirements
- Valid UK Category B driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points)
- Flexibility and adaptability, with an understanding that working patterns will vary significantly
- Comfortable using handheld technology for navigation and delivery management
- Strong communication, time management, and customer service skills
- Previous driving experience preferred, ideally within food or chilled distribution
- Ability to safely handle and lift trays and boxes of baked goods as part of delivery duties
- Commitment to food safety, hygiene, and quality standards
The Role
This role operates on a true casual basis. The intention is to create a Casual Worker Pool to provide flexible cover for operational needs, including holidays, sickness, absence, and peak demand periods.
Available shifts will be offered to the casual pool as they arise and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals are under no obligation to accept any shift offered and may decline without penalty.
However, once a shift has been accepted, this represents a firm commitment, and the individual will be expected to attend and complete the shift as agreed. Cancellations following acceptance should be avoided except in exceptional circumstances.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking individuals who are seeking flexible, irregular working opportunities, rather than full-time or guaranteed hours employment.
The ideal candidate will have good availability and a willingness to support the business on an ad hoc basis. As this is a casual arrangement, working hours will vary significantly depending on operational requirements, and there is no expectation of regular or fixed shifts.
This role would suit someone who values flexibility and variety, and who is comfortable working in a dynamic environment where service needs fluctuate throughout the year.
While on Assignment you will receive
- Agreed rate per hour
- Company van and fuel provided during assigned shifts
- Uniform provided for use during shifts
- Any role-specific training required to carry out assigned duties
Work Pattern
- Monday to Friday only
- No weekend or evening requirement, early morning start may be required
- Hours offered on an ad hoc basis only
Pay: £13.75-£14.25 per hour
Work Location: In person
