Crossover Labs, the producers and programmers of The Big Thing are recruiting multiple temporary roles to steward our upcoming conference that is taking place in Llandudno on 9, 10 and 11 September 2026. The Big Thing is the annual gathering of the Immersive Arts programme. The event brings together artists, producers, technologists, researchers and the wider ecosystem of venues, distributors, curators and funders from the UK and beyond. The event will include hands-on workshops, immersive artworks, inspiring keynotes, thought-provoking discussions, and many opportunities to connect, spark new ideas, and push the boundaries of creative practice. The Big Thing event website is here. Stewards are the public-face of the event so need to be professional, friendly, responsive to changes, and quick-learners. We need to staff a number of daytime and evening shifts.
Contract
Stewards are contracted to work over the days of 9, 10 & 11 September for The Big Thing event in Llandudno. There are a number of shifts available. There is no expectation of further work outside of this event. It is the responsibility of the person being contracted to pay taxes as they are working on a self-employed basis.
Job Description
- Welcoming and registering attendees
- Checking tickets/passes
- Directing guests around activities. This includes providing support to those with access needs (e.g. people who are D/deaf; those with assistance dogs; wheelchair/mobility scooter users). This may include accompanying attendees to different venues, helping them to a seat, or monitoring assistance dogs for short periods of time.
- Ad hoc and reasonable tasks to assist the production team
Stewards will need to be able to move between venues (15-25 minute walk depending on a person’s speed) and to be able to work under minimal supervision. There will be busier and quieter times. Shifts of over 6 hours will include a set break of 45 minutes.
A briefing document about the event will be sent by email to Stewards in advance. There will be a paid induction session before the start of the event.

Pay: £13.45 per hour
