· Ensure that all Medication orders are processed in a timely manner with the assistance of the Staff Nurses
· Ensure that medications are checked in and signed for by 2 members of staff, one of which must be a Nurse
· Maintain safe custody of Medication in the Home’s “Monitored Dosage System” (M.D.S) checking, administering and signing for drugs issued on the Medication Administration Record (M.A.R.) Sheet for each individual in the system
· Maintain safe custody of Controlled Drugs in the Home’s MDS. Checking, administering and signing for drugs issued on the M.A.R Sheet for each individual on the system. NB a record must be kept of the amount of medication left after every administration of a controlled drug and two Staff Nurses must sign this
· Ensure that unwanted/unused medication is properly recorded and disposed of appropriately making sure that two nurses sign for disposed medications
· Ensure that all “Use By” dates are adhered to for all medications and nursing aids e.g. syringes, dressing packs, swab packs etc
· General Guidelines, Policies and Procedures as issued by the NMC must be strictly observed and adhered to at all times
· With the direction and support of the Management implement and assess ongoing Risk Assessments and Care Plans for each Client. Upkeep the records within these Risk Assessments and Care Plans in line with the requirements set down by the Local Authorities and as required by the Care Standards Act 2000.
· Ensure that continence assessments are completed for all new clients and that all clients are reviewed regularly for their continence requirements supporting the Staff Nurses where necessary to ensure that the continence order is faxed to the continence department within the appropriate timescales.
· Carry out assessments of potential clients in conjunction with the Home Manager
· Ensure that Quality Assurance is monitored and maintained as directed by the Home Manager
· Be aware of all complaints, taking appropriate action and report to the Home Manager in accordance with the Company Policy
· Operate within the Company Policies and Procedures
· Record all accidents/incidents in writing indicating the action taken and report onto other agencies as required
· Maintain and promote clients and Company confidentiality at all times.
With the direction and support of the Management, maintain and update Care Plans and other Forms/Reports as and when required.
Together with other nurses complete Care Plans in full and in a timely manner. Care plans must be initiated within 12 hours of the client’s admission
Ensure that all Care Plans are reviewed on a monthly basis and that any updates/necessary amendments are noted accordingly
Ability to arrange attending GP visits on allocated day and act upon GP requests accordingly
To support the care staff to attend to the social needs of the clients. These will include:
· Talking with the clients
· Encouraging clients to stay in touch with family members over the telephone
· Assisting Clients with Recreation
Participation in all multi-disciplinary team meetings and contribute accordingly. All findings are to be documented and if there are changes to funding then the Office Manager should be notified
To support the care staff to attend to the physical needs of the clients, at a level determined by each individual’s physical and mental abilities, and work within the requirements of the care principles discussed and acknowledged at induction. These will include:

Washing
Feeding
Bathing
Toileting
Exercising
Promoting Continence
Assisting into/out of bed
Sluicing soiled linen/clothing
Assisting tidying rooms
