Full job description

Dental nurse required for a busy NHS practise in Newport Town. Qualification and experience are desirable. Good support and further training can be provided to the right candidate for dental software. We are looking for a reliable and flexible team player with the right attitude to join our small family dental practice. Commitment and the ability to work efficiently under pressure are important. Immediate start. Salary as per experience and qualifications. The role will include dental receptionist duties and responsibilities as follows: Main Purpose of the Role

A Dental Receptionist is responsible for providing an efficient, professional, and welcoming front-of-house service for patients attending the dental practice. The role includes managing appointments, handling patient enquiries, maintaining records, and supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the practice.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: Patient Reception

Welcome patients in a polite and professional manner
Register new patients and update patient records
Assist patients with forms and documentation
Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures
Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times

Appointment Management

Book, amend, and cancel appointments
Manage the appointment diary efficiently
Send reminders and follow-up communications
Coordinate emergency appointments where necessary
Monitor failed appointments and cancellations

Telephone and Communication Duties

Answer telephone calls promptly and professionally
Respond to patient enquiries and emails
Liaise with clinicians and other team members
Provide patients with information regarding treatments, fees, and practice policies
Handle complaints courteously and escalate where appropriate

Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain accurate patient records
File and scan clinical documents
Process referrals and correspondence
Manage incoming and outgoing post
Ensure GDPR and confidentiality requirements are followed

Financial Duties

Take payments and issue receipts
Process NHS and private treatment forms
Handle cash, card, and online payments
Prepare daily banking and payment reconciliation where required

Compliance and Practice Support

Follow practice policies and procedures
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the reception area
Assist with CQC, NHS, and compliance administration
Ensure safeguarding and health & safety procedures are followed
Support the clinical team when necessary

Skills and Qualities Required

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Good organisational ability
Professional and friendly manner
Ability to work under pressure
Attention to detail
Computer literacy and experience with dental software systems
Understanding of confidentiality and data protection

Desirable Experience

Previous dental or medical reception experience
Knowledge of dental software systems (SOE, Dentally, EXACT, etc.)
Understanding of NHS and private dental services
Customer service experience

Working Relationships

The Dental Receptionist works closely with:

Dentists
Dental Nurses
Practice Manager
Hygienists and Therapists
Patients and external organisations

General Responsibilities

Maintain professional conduct at all times
Attend training and staff meetings as required
Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role and practice needs

Work remotely
