Full job description

Job Summary
Hummingbird Preschool are seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Years Deputy Manager to support the leadership and daily operations of our childcare setting. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring high-quality early childhood education and care, fostering a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with strong management and childcare skills to contribute to the development and well-being of young children while supporting the nursery team. This role will be split 19 hours a week out of ratio (Deputy Manager) and 19 hours a week in ratio as an Early Years Practitioner.

Responsibilities

Assist the Nursery Manager in overseeing daily nursery operations, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards.
To take responsibility for the Nursery Setting, in the absence of the Nursery Manager.
Support the planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote children's development across all areas.
Supervise and support nursery staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and leadership to foster a positive team environment.
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children at all times, implementing safeguarding policies effectively.
Maintain effective communication with parents and carers, providing updates on children's progress and addressing any concerns promptly.
Contribute to maintaining accurate records of children's development, attendance, and other documentation as required.
Assist in staff recruitment, training, and performance management processes.
Support the implementation of policies related to health & safety, equality & diversity, and behaviour management.
Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with early childhood education best practices.

Experience

Proven experience working with children in a childcare or nursery setting.
A Full and Relevant U.K Early Years Qualification
Previous management or supervisory experience within an early years environment is highly desirable.
Knowledge of early childhood education frameworks and regulations (such as EYFS).
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support a team effectively.
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
Experience working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.

Valid driving licence is preferred for travel between settings or community engagement activities. This role is ideal for a passionate childcare professional looking to make a positive impact on young children's lives while developing their leadership skills within a supportive team environment.
